The Coordinator, a qualified RN, assists the Department Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the unit on his/her assigned shift. This function is in accordance with Michigan Public Health Code Act 368 of 1078, Article 15 (Health Occupations), Part 172 (Nursing), and the ANA Registered Nurse Standards. Under the direction and delegation of the manager, assists with planning, implementing and evaluating current practices to promote high-quality, cost-effective care; ensures focus and emphasis on enhancing patient and staff satisfaction; performs other duties as assigned. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her area.

Requirements:
-Graduate of accredited Registered Nursing Program required.
-Bachelor's of Science Nursing (BSN) preferred
-Current Michigan RN License (or completed by end of orientation) required
-Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider (or completed within 60 days of hire) required

-For ICU/TU, Cardiac Cath Lab, Emergency, PACU, Surgery Center, Endoscopy, Spine/Orthopedics, Float Pool: ACLS Certification or completed within one year of hire.
-For Emergency, 5 West, PACU, Surgery Center: PALS certification or completed within one year of hire.
-Certification in specialty area (CCRN, CRN, CNOR, CEN, etc) preferred

Pay Range: $28.71 - $$48.77/hr

Employment Type:  Part Time, 48 hours every 2 weeks

Schedule:  7:00 pm - 7:30 am

Quality of Care: systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.

Performance Appraisal: evaluates ones own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statues and regulations.

Education: acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in nursing practice.

Collegiality: interacts with, and contributes to the professional development of peers and other health care providers as colleagues

Ethics: Decisions and actions on behalf of patients and staff are determined in an ethical manner

Collaboration: collaborates with the patient, family, and other health care providers in providing patient care.

Research: utilizes research findings in practice Resource Utilization: considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in overseeing the planning and delivery of patient care.

ADMINISTRATIVE - STAFF PERFORMANCE

  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge and serves as a mentor and resource for unit personnel.
  • Provides timely, fair, and unbiased performance feedback to unit personnel.
  • Provides input to the unit manager for employee performance reviews; assists employees in the achievement of annual performance goals.
  • keeps the unit manager informed regarding the need for formal corrective action. Interacts with and contributes to the professional development of staff practicing in a Shared Governance model of nursing practice.
  • Supervises day to day performance of staff. Holds staff accountable to patient care and regulatory standards .

ADMINISTRATIVE - CUSTOMER SATISFACTION (internal and external customers)

  • Routinely seeks customer feedback to assess patient, staff and physician satisfaction.
  • Works with unit manager, Patient Relations and Risk Management to help provide timely follow-up on patient/significant other (s) or staff concerns.
  • Collaborates with Manager to develop and implement a plan to enhance customer satisfaction as needed in the unit.

ADMINISTRATION - RESOURCE UTILIZATION

  • Assists the Unit Manager and Department Director in the preparation and implementation of the budget including monitoring productivity and identifying and implementing cost improvement initiatives.
  • Assists manager in development and implementation of the daily staffing plan.
  • Makes and revises clinical assignments based on patient care needs and staff skills .
  • Assumes direct patient care responsibilities as needed.
  • Assists manager in interviewing potential new staff and implementing the recruitment/retention plan.
  • Assists the manager and nurse educator in successful orientation of new staff. Ensures availability and operation of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinates patient throughput-optimizes patient flow while maintaining quality care.

ADMINISTRATIVE - EVALUATION

  • Collaborates with the Unit Manager to help implement and monitor quality improvement, including data collection as assigned, in unit systems to assure the delivery of safe, quality care and compliance with professional and regulatory agencies.
  • Contributes to unit and organization-wide strategic planning by identifying unit needs, participating in special projects and/or shared governance activities, and promoting staff involvement in change initiatives.
  • Builds, maintains, and supports a culture that fosters effective working relationships.
  • Re-enforces effective communication mechanisms to help inform staff and physicians of changes in policies and procedures or practice.
  • Assists with development/revision of policies, protocols and order sets.
