Position Summary:

Pioneering Medicines is seeking a highly motivated and strategic In Vitro Pharmacology leader to support a growing portfolio of assets. This key leadership role will require an individual to direct and oversee in vitro pharmacology efforts, participating in drug discovery and early development activities. The role will involve functional accountability to support assets across a diverse range of modalities and therapeutic areas, including inflammation and metabolic diseases. The candidate will work in cross-functional teams leading and supporting the activities, delivering research leadership, and managing scientists. The successful candidate is expected to proactively build and maintain strong collaborations with Flagship Pioneering platform companies and large pharma partners. We are seeking individuals who are analytical, goal-oriented, and timeline-sensitive, while maintaining the highest of scientific and ethical standards. Strong communication skills and comfort working in a dynamic and cross-functional team environment are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Support projects across diverse therapeutic areas/modalities including inflammation and metabolic therapeutic areas
  • Serve as a Research Project Leader to develop research strategy and drive execution of drug discovery projects
  • Identify and implement preclinical cell-based models that reflect patient pathology and develop assays to support in vitro characterization of lead small molecules, biologics, and genetic modalities
  • Develop  in vitro pharmacology plans and budgets to progress lead molecules from hit-to-lead to DC and IND/CTA
  • Lead scientific discussions with Flagship Platform companies and external pharmaceutical partners
  • Lead a team of PhD and non-PhD scientists, including managers
  • This position is on-site/hybrid in Cambridge, MA

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Ph.D., in Biology, Biochemistry or related field
  • 12+ years of relevant pharmaceutical/biotechnology experience
  • Extensive experience in assay development and proficiency in drug discovery and development, including delivering data and documentation supporting IND/CTA regulatory filings
  • Proven leadership and excellent mentorship skills, with experience in managing a team and leading programmatic matrix teams
  • Scientific experience working in inflammation or metabolic drug discovery and development programs
  • Ability and interest to work across multiple therapeutic areas and modalities
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts and data to both scientific and non-scientific colleagues

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing scientific due diligence on assets and/or platform biotechs
  • Experience working on cross-industry collaborations
