Overview:
The Lead Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for managing the overall quality of products and parts produced by suppliers in China, in accordance to Dyson Quality Standard. The scope extends from supporting the supplier selection & qualification process to new product/part introduction process to supplier management & development through to the end of product life. The Lead Supplier Quality Engineer is also required to work with Dyson contract manufacturers’ quality team and other Dyson stakeholders as well as lead the suppliers in the issue resolution process throughput the product/part lifecycle.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
- Supplier Selection & Qualification: Participate in supplier selection process through critical auditing and assessment of the supplier quality system, providing clear and concise recommendation to Business stakeholders on the adequacy of suppliers to fulfilling Dyson requirements.
- Supplier On-boarding: Lead quality on-boarding of the new suppliers to ensure new suppliers understand Dyson Quality Requirements and can efficiently work with Dyson throughout the product/part lifecycle
- Supplier Development: Identify quality improvement opportunities with the suppliers and systematically work towards developing the suppliers to deliver products/parts of the highest quality
- Supplier Monitoring: Implement a robust quality monitoring mechanism at the suppliers to ensure the suppliers are consistently producing product/part of highest quality and to identify and mitigate risk or deviations in timely manner
- Product/Part development: Support Dyson Engineering in the process of developing product/part with the suppliers, ensuring product/part can meet Dyson requirements and all the critical to quality parameters are adequately defined and demonstrated.
- Manufacturing process development: Work with cross-functional team to ensure manufacturing process are clearly defined, risk-assessed and tested to demonstrate readiness and capability to consistently deliver product/part fulfilling Dyson requirements
- Issue Resolution: Lead issue resolution with the suppliers and work with relevant stakeholders to ensure quality issues and risks are robustly addressed
- Periodic Supplier Assessment: Work with Procurement and Engineering to implement periodic assessment of suppliers to ensure Quality System and Capability are maintained or improved. Identify and propose dis-qualification of suppliers when deemed necessary.
- Escalation & Risk Management: Provide escalation path bi-laterally to ensure quality risks are accorded the appropriate level of management attention at both sides.
Skills / Requirements:
- Candidates must possess a Degree or Diploma in Mechanical/ Industry Engineering / with minimum 5 years' experience in an engineering/quality capacity under Design and/or Manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge in Quality System, preferably certified as Lead Auditor
- Good technical ability in Mechanical design and Manufacturing
- Excellent analytical skill with good knowledge of statistical data analysis
- Good knowledge of Quality tools e.g. 8D, APQP, DOE, FMEA, GR&R, SPC, Six Sigma. Certified Black/Green Belts will be advantageous.
- Strong organization skill and personal drive with ability to work independently under pressure
- Excellent communication skills across different hierarchical levels and geographical zones, catering to both technical and non-technical audiences through variety of media
- Demonstrate understanding and interpretation of engineering specifications for quality component or assembly sourcing.
- Motivated by driving continuous improvement programs and application of Lessons Learnt mindset
- Proficient in both English and Chinese
- Ability to travel locally in China on short notice
