Job Description Summary:

The Department of Neurology at University of Kansas Medical Center, an academic medical center, is seeking a compassionate and academically minded Neuropalliative Care Physician. The successful candidate will provide both general neurology consultations and specialized palliative care for patients with serious neurological illnesses, working in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Candidates fresh out of training as well as experienced candidates are welcome to apply.

Job Description:

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive care for patients with a broad range of neurological conditions in the general neurology service.

  • Deliver primary neuropalliative care to patients with serious, progressive neurologic diseases such as ALS, advanced dementia, high-grade gliomas, multiple system atrophy, and others.

  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams including neurology subspecialists, palliative care, social work, case management, and rehabilitation services.

  • Support goals-of-care discussions, symptom management, advance care planning, and transitions in care.

  • Participate in academic activities, including teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

  • Engage in quality improvement and scholarly projects relevant to neuropalliative care and general neurology.

  • Participate in shared call responsibilities as appropriate for general neurology.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • MD or DO with board certification or board eligibility in Neurology.

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position.  The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Work Experience:

  • Fellowship training in Hospice & Palliative Medicine and/or significant experience or interest in neuropalliative care.

License:

  • Eligibility for medical licensure in Kansas & Missouri.

Preferred Qualifications:

Work Experience:

  • Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary team-based care and medical education.

  • Interest or experience in research or program development in neuropalliative care.

Skills:

  • Strong communication skills and a patient-centered approach.
