The CIT Data Abstractor will abstract and compile data from various sources including the Electronic Medical Record, Cellular Therapeutics Laboratory, and external providers as required to submit autologous, allogeneic, and cellular therapy data to the Center for International Bone Marrow Transplant Research “CIBMTR”. The CIT Data Abstractor will enter data into the Cellular Immunotherapies and Transplant Program’s internal database and support internal and external audits as necessary. The clinical data abstractor will serve as a subject matter expert and resource to help guide performance improvement initiatives.

Essential Job Statements

  • Reviews and abstracts complex information from patient medical records in accordance with registry specifications and/or project terms. 

  • Manages the process of timely, complete data submission and error reconciliation. 

  • Maintains CIBMTR Audit critical field error rate of less than or equal to 3%. 

  • Maintains the integrity and accuracy of all data collected. Works closely with program leadership to improve identified documentation and data collection gaps. 

  • Identifies variances and opportunities for improvement and communicates effectively with appropriate departments and committees. 

  • Stays up to date on CIBMTR reporting requirements and communicates changes to appropriate team members. Meets all continuing education requirements. 

  • Supports quality improvement initiatives based on data analyses and trends. 

  • Meets all internal and external deadlines. 

  • Preserves the confidentiality and security of patient data. 

  • Assists with special projects as required and participates in the orientation of new staff. 

  • Able to handle multiple priorities.

  • Able to adapt to frequent change.

Employment Qualifications 


Required Education: 

Bachelor’s degree from and accredited school of nursing. 

Preferred Education: 

Master’s degree. 

Licensure/Certification Required: 

RN 

Licensure/Certification Preferred: 

BMTCN or OCN 

Minimum Qualifications 

Years and Type of Required Experience 

3 years’ experience in clinical care setting 

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

Proficiency with MS Office software including email, MS-Word, and MS-Excel.

Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills. 

Cultural Responsiveness 

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 

Experience in Cellular Immunotherapies and Transplant or other Oncology clinical settings 

Working Conditions


Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
