Job Summary

As an Automation Test Specialist, you take ownership to lead key enhancements in digital functions and ensure Telstra is investing in the right areas to deliver our T22 Strategy. You are responsible for driving innovative ways to test platforms that service our internal and external customers and promote analytics and robotics process automation for our tool and platform maintenance.

You bring a breadth of skills and experience in automating testing for a software platform (frontend and backend); as well as expertise in building out automated deployment pipelines that support ongoing automated testing. Your knowledge in best practice standards for CI/CD delivery, expertise in technical leadership and analytics, and ability to deliver proactive automated remediation are critical to success in this role.

Job Description

As a Automation Test Engineer, you will be responsible for: 

  • Design, develop, execute and maintain automation scripts enabling and advocating an automation first approach 

  • Provide support and demonstrate flexibility to perform any type of testing as needed, including both automation and manual testing. 

  • Provide senior level guidance and lead the execution of test and quality assurance on enterprise projects for various missions 

  • Analyse requirements and follow testing standards and guidelines to define dynamic test plans (specifying scope, assumptions, tools and acceptance criteria) and test cases/scenarios (in line with standard Telstra technology delivery process), with support from more experienced team members as required.    

  • Research, investigate, socialise and implement emerging technologies via internal innovation of our automation, quality engineering, performance and Devops communities 

  • Mentor junior team members, providing support & reviewing code promoting a CI/CD culture 

  • Stay Updated with the Testing Trends 

  • Achieve a well-defined, functioning, and repeatable set of key business, program management and technology processes to ensure consistent quality is maintained 

  • Testing on various browsers and mobile devices to ensure their configuration, operation, and capabilities work efficiently. 

  • Develop automated test scripts and frameworks respective technology  

  • Partner with Chapter Leads on monitoring performance of engineers in the team to identify opportunities for mentoring and skill development. 

  • Provide expertise across testing and related tooling, libraries and frameworks across multiple development languages. 

  • Model proactive problem solving, particularly to complex and/or novel issues and coach and support others in the team to do the same. 

  • Be a role model for curiosity and continuous personal capability development for your team and broader engineering group, supporting others development through coaching and mentoring. 

  • Have the right self-starter attitude and growth mindset to work as one team. 

  • Managing production support and maintenance for applications in the production and pre-production environments keeping in a DevOps model 

  • Review and integrate all application requirements, including functional, security, integration, performance, quality, and operations requirements 

  • Technology assessments and estimation of new features 

  • Provide deep technical input into formal project management processes 

  • Well versed with agile scrum process and agile ways of working in a software delivery team 

 

 

 

 

Key Skills 

Essential 

  • 8+ Years of experience & well versed with Agile Ways of working (Scrum, SAFe)  

  • 5+ Years of exposure to hands-on test automation using open-source tools such as Playwright, Typescript, Java, Java Script, Json, Selenium, RestAssured, Serenity, Cypress, Gauge, Cucumber  

  • Problem solving attitude, with good troubleshooting and software debugging skills 

  • Web and API Automation skills 

  • Knowledge of DevOps, with exposure to Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) software practices 

  • Strong programming or scripting skillset 

  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills 

  • Experience of testing digital applications 

  • Growth/Learning mindset 

  • Virtualization/Cloud 

  • Good debugging & troubleshooting skill set.  

 

Desirable 

  • Knowledgeable in OSS/BSS in Telecom domain 

  • Accessibility testing, Security testing and SVT skills are added advantage 

  • Mobile automation skills using Appium 

  • Experience with design patterns, architecture, secure coding  

  • Need to have a programmer mindset. Good knowledge of framework development & Reporting  

  • Experience in automation (Selenium, Rest Assured, Javmaven, git, Jenkins/bamboo, Cucumber, TestNG, Karate), web & webservices automation.  

  • Good debugging & troubleshooting skill set.  

  • Knowledge of continuous integration/continuous deployment.  

  • Good to have exposure to AWS/Azure cloud services.  

  • Good to have exposure to Infrastructure as code practice.
