Position Summary

We are looking for a manager to manage a team of engineers with system-level C, networking, protocol and kernel expertise. Manage teams that develop and architect software on a new hardware (chassis and appliance) platforms. Research, investigate and define new areas of technology to enhance existing products or new product directions; implement (code and test) to defined set of requirements; document software designs via functional specifications and other design documents; evaluate performance of products; tune and re-evaluate the design and implementation of current source code; and diagnose, document and resolve product issues found in QA and in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Manage team and development project deliverables.
  • Effectively lead team through design and development by providing technical and logistical direction and support to development team.
  • Efficiently communicate/collaborate across multiple Seattle teams as well as remote teams.
  • Evaluate performance of direct-reports and assist them in creating career development plans.
  • Discuss new designs/technology with other product module owners and help set the direction of F5's future product architecture.
  • Work with customers, sales, support, and product management to create technologies that solve customer problems.
  • Monitor and coordinate activities of key vendors/partners.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies, potential business partners.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science or related degree, with minimum 7 years with experience in networking software development.
  • Proven track record in both software development and in managing a development group.
  • Ability to build a team, foster team growth, and manage team project deliverables.
  •  Must have strong L2/L3 networking experience.
  • Enough technical knowledge and instincts to effectively lead team through design and development.
  • This includes knowledge of:
    • TCP/IP and other network protocols.
    • SSL/TLS, Layer 7 (HTTP), and other Web Technologies.
    • Extensive experience with C/C++ development and troubleshooting.
    • Linux/UNIX environments.
    • Good understanding of HW/SW interaction.
  •  Linux Kernel and FPGA driver development, as well as experience in performance optimization a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to work well with a wide variety of personalities.

The annual base pay for this position is: $157,904.00 - $236,856.00

F5 maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, geographic locations, and market conditions, as well as to reflect F5’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. The pay range referenced is as of the time of the job posting and is subject to change.
