Leidos has an opening for a Junior Systems Engineer. Leidos is looking for a Systems Engineer with a healthcare background to support the Human Systems Integration division of VHA’s Office of Health Informatics. 

The Junior Systems Engineer will participate in a cross-functional team in the provision of Human Factors Engineering and Human Systems Engineering Services to organizational customers that aim to optimize overall system performance.  

The Junior Systems Engineer will support the planning and performance of studies for assessments, evaluations, and analyses to provide recommendations for interactive systems to improve their usefulness and usability.  Studies may include areas to include usability, macro-ergonomics, human factors, instructional systems design, systems safety, applied analysis, cognitive engineering and interaction design functions.  The goal of the program team is to determine user needs by role and perform structured usability testing for critical functionality, including providing baselining and post-implementation assessments, while providing evidence for risk-informed decision-making, consistent with the project’s objectives with respect to engineering solutions. 
 

Primary Responsibilities

Work closely with other team members to : 

  • Assess deployment and post-implementation status to determine the impact on ongoing operations, including progress assessments related to defined KPIs.
  • Support activities that explore the variance and design constraints of workflow adoption issues.
  • Support the prioritized functionality and integrated clinical workflows that facilitate improvements in the human system interactions of a new EHR.
  • Lead business process reviews and recommend enhancements to elements of the socio-technical system.
  • Perform workflow evaluations that apply best practices or standardized procedures that improve service delivery with measurable health outcomes, or craft new methods based on the literature.
  • Perform analysis efforts that inform candidate solution development resulting in recommendations for changes to the system design or functionality or other optimal mitigation strategies to an identified issue to enhance policy, procedures, organizational/leadership, education/training, manpower/personnel/staffing, etc., or some combination of those.
  • Validate and enhance workflows and enable performance optimization, and identify latent risks and design inefficiencies, challenges, and opportunities for system enhancement.

The Junior Systems Engineer will be a dedicated resource that provides at least a 60% full-time employee equivalent (FTEE); with availability for team ceremonies and collaborative sessions Monday-Friday, between 7 AM ET and 6 p.m. ET.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience in systems engineering.
  • Experience with technical support in system architecture, system design, system integration, and/or technical management.
  • Excellent technical writing, verbal and written communication skills, including experience working directly with customers to discuss their requirements and objectives.
  • Experience supporting Studies.
  • Communication Skills:  Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering.
  • Experience in a Healthcare environment.
  • Experience with electronic healthcare records systems. 
  • VHA domain knowledge.
  • Experience with Jira (or Azure DevOps (ADO)), Powerpoint, Visio.
  • Familiar with Agile development methodology.
  • Experience with developing and implementing installation plans.
  • Experience with preparing and presenting system assurance reviews.
  • Experience with identifying requirements and deficiencies in hardware and software products.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $65,000.00 - $117,500.00
