Job Summary:

Assists in managing the networking and technical operations related to an interoperable, digital communication system for MS MedCom and additional divisions of the Mississippi Center of Emergency Services (MCES).

Education & Experience

Education and Experience Required:

Degree (Associate's or Bachelor's) and two (2) years' work experience supporting telecommunications systems

Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations Required:

N/A

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in science, engineering or technology

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of telecommunications systems to include voice and data systems and computer networking systems.  Troubleshooting, analytical and problem resolution skills.  Verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to identify and recommend measures to reduce risks and mitigate potential threats to the communications systems.  Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.  Ability to respond and travel on short notice to remote site(s) as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs complex problem diagnosis, support, and maintenance for communications systems for the divisions of MCES.
  • Maintains security, continuity and maintenance agreements, monitoring and stability of communications systems and applications.
  • Participates in the planning of network, construction, and/or relocation activities for divisions of MCES.
  • Monitors communications systems performance and implements modifications for system optimization.
  • Collaborates with leadership to facilitate growth of internal and external services of MCES.
  • Provides direction and planning for an interoperable digital radio system for the use in daily operational activities as well as internal and external emergencies which may impact the health system or health system partners.
  • Provides subject matter expertise on wireless and land phone systems as well as remote deployment of such devices.
  • Responds as part of the campus & state-wide disaster response system to provide computer, telcom, radio and logistical support during disasters. This may require long-distance travel and overnight stays in austere conditions. Assists in the development & maintenance of the UMMC Unmanned Aerial Vehicle program. Maintains appropriate documentation and records for compliance with FAA regulations.
  • Travel to remote sites may require overnight stays.

(occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
