POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Database Administrator develops database application components, optimizes database processes, and manages data storage using functional and detail design requirements documentation, database programming languages, change management, quality assurance processes, and system monitoring metrics to the benefit of the enterprise. This position will collaborate with others to produce the appropriate documentation, estimates, and other artifacts to complete work on time, within budget, and within scope. He or she will operate in a medium-sized enterprise environment with geographically diverse offices and remote clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify, implement, and refine database standards and procedures for data security, database optimization, database performance, and normalized data structures for on-line transaction processing (OLTP) functionality.
  • Work closely with Security Administrators and Network Administrators to combine Windows network security (Groups and Users) with SQL Server security (Logins, Users, and Roles).
  • Identify, implement, and refine database standards and procedures for de-normalized database structures (including Star Schemas and Snowflake Schemas) for business intelligence (BI), decision support systems (DSS), and (OLAP) functionality.
  • In conjunction with Software Engineers, conceptualize, design, program, test, implement and deploy SQL-based solutions using the appropriate technological tools, documentation, processes, design, and quality standards.
  • Provide technology expertise when collaborating with colleagues, vendors, and consultants to identify the technical requirements, assess technological options, recommend and implement technical solutions.
  • Ensure accuracy of coding, create technical documentation; utilize software configuration, version and quality management processes.
  • Work with project participants to maximize productivity, effectiveness and timely completion.
  • Provide training and guidance to less experienced personnel.
  • Participate in identifying measurable objectives in support of the organization, and objectives in pursuit of personal growth and skill expansion.
  • Migrate database and disaster recovery drills and/or BCP.
  • Protect corporate data assets and intellectual property.
  • Snowflake administration.
  • Assist less experienced colleagues by providing technical direction or instruction.
  • Special projects as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology/computer science or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) certification and an Authority in SQL Server 2022 and SQL 2019 with three years SQL Server Integration Services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Competent with tool use to manage the following functions: code management, project management, testing / quality assurance, version control, system development lifecycle control, and prototyping.
  • Knowledge of information systems terminology, concepts / practices; networking, distributed computing environment, and trouble-shooting strategies and concepts.
  • Understand a broad range of technologies and able to think in terms "enterprise wide" solutions.
  • Proficiency in SQL replication concepts and tools. AWS experience is beneficial.
  • Software development lifecycle using structured processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competent in at least one of the following technologies: MS Analysis Service, MS Reporting Services, and data warehouse / data mart is preferred.
  • Vendor certification in any of the application and/or technologies listed above is desired.
  • Mortgage industry systems is beneficial.
