Job Description:

Discover will not sponsor or transfer employment work visas for this position.  Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

The Product Professional is responsible for maximizing the value of the product resulting from work of the Team. Product Professionals are at the center of delivering new products and driving innovation on platforms that improve customer experience, meet customer needs, and create business value while prioritizing "what" the team is working on to deliver value to the customer. The Product Professional is a servant leader and not the manager of team members, has well-rounded job knowledge and helps to coach/mentor others on the team. Structure the work for the team and delegates the work. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

This role is a key Product Owner role in our Customer Profile Product Family, a critical group focused on maintaining essential system operations. This is a large product team with a multi-sprint backlog, focusing on compliance work and application maintenance.  The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail – oriented and able to effectively prioritize incoming and current work.

Responsibilities

  • Builds product backlog, prioritizes its items to achieve Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and continuously keeps it up to date. Maintains key product documentation (e.g., customer journey map, technical specs, process mapping, etc.).
  • Understand and Ensures product features and processes align with applicable Discover regulatory, compliance, and risk management standards. Ensures product adheres to the highest quality standards, including releasing security patches not linked to customers. Articulates requirements (regulatory, contractual) into use cases, agile stories, and acceptance criteria to ensure compliance. Creates and validates user story acceptance criteria. Inspect and evaluate product progress through each iteration.
  • Leads Agile practices (sprints, planning, execution, and retros) Holds meetings with the product team to continuously update product backlog.
  • Defines functional and non-functional product requirements; ensure completeness; integral and consistent; source of requirements for product team. Creates and validates user story acceptance criteria. Executes appropriate testing frameworks for product features (e.g., market testing, functional performance, etc.) Works with Data stewards in their respective LOBs to ensure required Data quality controls are identified and implemented. Inspect and evaluate product progress through each iteration.
  • Partners with business technology to create technical features that are required to continuously optimize system components and underline infrastructure maintenance.
  • Manages and communicates scope, deliverables, timelines of projects and/or plans through storyboarding and structing complex information visually.
  • Contributes to the product development and vision by connecting how customer solutions support business goals. Responsible for delivering Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to support go-to-market strategies.
  • Builds a culture of accountability and ownership by empowering the product team to make decisions as close to the work as possible.
  • Partners with vendors and/or cross-functional partners in the evaluation, development, management, monitoring and/or enhancement of assigned products and/or programs.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

  • Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration & Management, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics, or related.
  • 4+ years of experience in Product Management or Engineering experience in Financial Services or Tech Industry, or related
  • In lieu of a degree, 6+ years of experience in Product Management or Engineering experience in Financial Services or Tech Industry, or related

Backlog Management Skills:

  • Expertise in creating, refining, and prioritizing user stories, ensuring alignment with the product vision and stakeholder needs.
  • Ability to maintain a clear and actionable backlog that balances short-term deliverables with long-term product strategy.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Excellent communication skills to engage with stakeholders, gather requirements, and translate them into well-defined product features.
  • Ability to manage stakeholder expectations and navigate competing priorities.

Technical Understanding:

  •   Familiarity with the technical aspects of the product, enabling effective collaboration with development teams and informed decision-making.
  •   Experience working with tools like Jira, or other backlog management software.

Strategic Vision:

  •   Strong strategic thinking and planning skills to ensure the backlog reflects both immediate needs and long-term goals.
  •   Ability to analyze market trends, user feedback, and other data to drive product decisions.

Problem-Solving Abilities:

  •  Demonstrated ability to identify potential risks or roadblocks in the development process and proactively find solutions.
  •  Experience in facilitating sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives to continuously improve team performance.

Leadership and Team Collaboration:

  • Strong leadership skills to guide cross-functional teams and drive product initiatives from conception to release.
  • Experience in fostering a collaborative environment where team members feel empowered to contribute ideas and improvement

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $100,000.00 to $139,600.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
