Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical cardiovascular expertise and support to underwriters for Life insurance, Disability Income and Long-Term Care through thorough analysis of case referrals to include provider medical records, test results and course of treatment. Provide timely consultations with underwriters and identify when additional medical information is needed

  • Accurate screening and interpretation of EKGs along with assessment of a variety of cardiovascular studies. Ex. echocardiograms, stress tests, cardiac MRIs, etc.

  • Under supervision, participation in the achievement of company mortality and morbidity goals through the research, development, writing, revision and application of less complex proprietary medical standards

  • Clearly communicate the risk assessment, rationale, recommendation and reconsideration to the underwriters and technical underwriting consultants with ability to uphold decision

  • Provide medical education and training to Life, Disability Income and Long-Term Care underwriters

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in cardiovascular medicine with a bachelor’s degree as a registered nurse

  • Experience working in a specialized cardiac unit and/or cardiac clinic with knowledge of a variety of cardiovascular impairments and familiarity with reviewing and evaluating an array of cardiovascular tests

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work effectively with others at all experience levels

  • Consistent critical decision-making skills and flexibility in all aspects of work

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills

  • Flexibility and willingness to change as job duties change

  • Willingness to participate in LOMA/ALU and/or other industry programs

  • Knowledge of computer functions and experience in a “Windows” environment.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in genetics and or bioinformatics

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$59,150.00

Pay Range - End:

$109,850.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
