The Amgen Postdoctoral Program is committed to providing future scientists with an enriched environment to inspire innovation that will contribute to the development of human therapeutics.

In this role the candidate will work as part of Amgen Process Development’s Manufacturing Technology Advancement Group, based at our corporate headquarters in Thousand Oaks, California.

The MTA team is tasked with developing new manufacturing technologies, with a special focus on the automated inspection of biopharmaceutical products.

Working with the MTA team and strategic partners, the candidate will explore the use of a combination of contemporary technologies to assist development of new inspection platforms, including, but not limited to industrial robotics, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, laser-based metrology and computational modelling.

The MTA group is a diverse, multi-disciplinary team made up of mechanical and electrical engineers, chemical engineers, physicists, computer scientists and manufacturing experts. The candidate will have the full support of the team in developing and realizing their experiments and will have full access to our industry-leading automation development laboratory. The candidate will have ample opportunity to learn about our industry and add to their portfolio of skills.

It is expected that the candidate will have the opportunity to develop working relationships with other relevant teams throughout the company. The MTA group is a global team with members located across Amgen’s international manufacturing sites. At our Thousand Oaks HQ the candidate will have exposure to our labs, pilot plants and clinical manufacturing facilities.

It is also expected that over the course of this position the candidate will contribute to both peer-reviewed scientific publications and Amgen’s portfolio of intellectual property.

This postdoctoral assignment is intended to last for 2 years.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. at the time of appointment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Physics or related discipline.

  • Proven track record in publishing high-quality research in respected academic journals or conferences

  • Hands-on experience with hardware design and prototyping

  • Programming proficiency in Python

  • Experience or interest in one or more of the following domains:

    • Industrial automation/robotics

    • Computer vision and image processing

    • Computational modelling (e.g. Ansys, COMSOL, MATLAB)

Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
