With over $250.4 billion in gross assets under management, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) stands as one of Canada’s largest and most highly respected institutional investors. Since its inception, BCI has grown into a globally influential financial institution with a diverse, international portfolio. Renowned for its active, in-house asset management and sophisticated investment strategies, BCI excels in navigating the complexities of today’s global market.
In recent years, BCI has made substantial investments in modernizing its technology operations. Through the integration of advanced enterprise tools, development of cutting-edge analytics capabilities, and the establishment of a fast-paced, business-focused technology organization, BCI has laid a strong foundation for growth. These modernization efforts have significantly improved operational stability while fostering an appetite for further innovation across the business. Building on this momentum, BCI is now advancing into the next phase of its technology strategy, with a focus on driving operational excellence, enhancing cybersecurity, and scaling transformative emerging technologies.
A key development in this evolution is the consolidation of the Technology Operations team with Enterprise Architecture under the leadership of a newly created role—Vice President, Technology Operations & Architecture. This strategic move is designed to align service delivery with evolving business needs while streamlining operations for greater efficiency. The incoming VP will play a pivotal role in defining the future technology landscape of BCI, driving large-scale initiatives that span cloud infrastructure, digital workplace services, enterprise architecture, and disaster recovery. By providing strong leadership and leveraging modern technology approaches, the VP will ensure BCI’s technology platforms are resilient, scalable, and ready to support the organization's ambitious goals.
Reporting directly to the SVP, Technology & Innovation (CTO) and leading a team of over 35, the VP will lead strategically important operational and architectural initiatives. The role demands exceptional leadership, with the ability to assess current performance, anticipate future trends, and identify continuous improvement opportunities. Acting as a senior technical advisor to the SVP, the VP will guide enterprise-wide technical decision-making while working closely with teams to drive operational excellence. The VP will need to partner with BCI's Enterprise Solutions and Cybersecurity teams to ensure alignment with overall business objectives and the achievement of digital transformation goals. The VP will oversee multiple teams of internal and external resources, building and maintaining strategic relationships with third-party partners. In doing so, they will ensure that BCI’s technology assets are stable, modernized, and positioned to deliver maximum value.
Located in either Vancouver or Victoria (with a preference for Victoria), the Vice President, Technology Operations & Architecture role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of BCI’s technology function and contribute to the continued success of one of Canada’s most dynamic investment organizations.
BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.
The annualized base salary range for this role based in Victoria or Vancouver is CAD $180,000-$230,000.
The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.
We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.
Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
