In Financial Services (FS) we support the Group’s strategy of building tomorrow’s bank today for our customers, through a focus on three key priorities of trust, resilience, and capital generation.  The FS Data Science Chapter partners with core finance, treasury, procurement, investor relations, and expert advisory teams to deploy AI, GenAI and Agentic AI solutions that drive performance and reimagine ways of working.  We proactively identify opportunities to drive world class technology solutions for strategic decision making.

The Chief Data and Analytics Office (CDAO) Practice delivers the groups data and AI solutions to ensure the highest levels of customer service through excellent insights, process excellence and AI innovation. Our team is composed of data scientists, engineers, and technology leaders, who bring in the right mix of skills to enable this transformation. We also work very closely with our business and operations colleagues to support these services which are critical to the Australian and Global economy.

Reporting to the AI Lead Finance and as a Chapter Lead Data Science - Financial Service, you'll lead a growing team of data scientists delivering high-impact solutions across Financial Services.  You’ll help shape the Chapter vision, guide technical excellence and build trust-based relationships with key stakeholders.  This is a rare opportunity to help define the future of finance—through AI augmentation, intelligent automation, and agentic systems.

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll:

• Lead, mentor and grow a high-performing team of data scientists delivering across a portfolio of strategic AI use cases.
• Shape and communicate a compelling vision for AI in Financial Services, helping stakeholders understand the art of the possible.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities to drive value with AI solution. Collaborate with for cross-functional teams to drive the development and integration of best-in-class AI solutions  
• Work with technical experts to lead their teams and work towards the best solutions for the development of AI
• Be confident in defining and owing capability uplift roadmaps to drive excellence and innovation across data science and decision science and across FS
• Manage multiple initiatives concurrently to completion
• Present solutions to senior business and non-technical stakeholders 
• Stay ahead of emerging trends in AI and share insights to inspire the team and stakeholders.
• Be customer-obsessed, with a sharp eye for how AI can elevate service, insight, and impact.

We want to hear from you if you have: 

• A strong background in data science and AI, with a willingness to learn and jump into the deep end of technical problems and dive into code
• Experience in financial services industry in a risk/regulatory capacity is preferable. 
• Demonstrated technical experience developing Machine Learning / Deep Learning / Generative AI (Gen AI) systems 
• Passion for novel research in AI, emerging tech and methodologies      
• Ability to translate complex AI concepts into practical, real-world solutions   
• Proven track record of leading and delivering impactful AI projects from concept to implementation 
• Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical   
• Adaptable and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving field  
• Demonstrated ability to problem solve and creative thinking
• Risk mindset – proactively identifying, understanding, discussing, and acting on current and future risks 

Tech Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks, which means our people managers are technology leaders that will lead, manage, empower and inspire a diverse group of data scientists with various strengths and broad range of skillsets.  

We do not expect you to have managed teams working with all of these, but having experience and exposure with leading teams that specialise in some of these (or equivalents) is encouraged.   

• Team management and direct people management    
• Experience in conducting research  
• Technical experience in Machine Learning / Deep Learning / Gen AI  
• Python, Gen AI frameworks & ML/AI tools 
• Agentic system design and orchestration
