Job Description

Purpose

To support Brookfield Renewable Group on legal aspects of its investment strategy in Southeast Asia

Responsibilities

Supporting the Brookfield Renewable Group in all aspects of the legal investments function, including:

  • Managing the legal aspects of mergers, acquisitions, or disposals, including coordinating due diligence, and reviewing and advising on deal documentation.

  • Coverage of key markets in Southeast Asia including Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam as part of Brookfield’s renewable strategy in the region

  • Reviewing and advising on capital management initiatives and relevant documentation

  • Assist in reviewing and advising on relevant regulatory submissions for transactions.

  • Management of specific external legal engagements, liaison with external legal advisers as required, review of legal advice issued by external legal advisers and communication of such advice to internal stakeholders.

  • Taking an active role in managing all legal aspects in relation to the asset management and monitoring legal issues associated with existing portfolio companies (e.g., major contracts, litigation, regulatory)

  • Form collaborative relationships with relevant personnel from the management team and across the Brookfield Group functions such as Tax, Accounting, Risk, and Compliance.

  • Other ad hoc projects and duties as required.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in law with a strong academic record (preferably including Honours).

  • Qualified in Singapore or other common law jurisdictions

  • Tertiary qualifications in commerce or finance highly regarded.

  • At least 8 years of post-admission legal experience, including at least 8 years post-admission experience in a finance, equity capital markets, debt capital markets or M&A division of a top-tier law firm.

  • Previous experience in a mid to senior in-house legal counsel role will be highly regarded.

  • Previous experience in Southeast Asia covering renewable, energy or other real asset sectors preferred
