Job Responsibilities:

Scope

All aspects & functions involved in the application of MAFACT support.

Key Responsibilities: (These duties cover only the more significant responsibilities, they are not meant to be all inclusive.  Other duties may be given by the supervisor in addition to, or instead of, those listed here.)

  • Performs audits at both locations in work area to verify that proper work cell organization and documentation (Standardized Work Instructions [SWI], Job Element Sheet [JES], and In-Process Inspection Report [IIR]) is present and current. 
  • Performs product, dock, and incoming component receiving inspection audits.
  • Performs training to manufacturing operators utilizing the Training Within Industry (TWI) method for inspection activities required by the JES.
  • Observes and audits operators for correctly following SWI and JES.  
  • If the operator(s) are not, takes the step to manage the situation by immediately notifying supervision. 
  • Supports and participates in operator re-training if necessary and as requested by the supervisor.
  • Ensures & maintains gages to keep them in good working order.
  • Verifies that operators are using gages correctly, and if not, teaches the operator on the correct use of the gage. 
  • In such instances, verifies that no nonconforming parts were passed due to the incorrect operation of the gages.
  • Verifies that operators are filling out all the required information on the IIR’s at each operation.
  • Facilitates the document control of completed IIR’s and other work cell inspection records by removing from the work cell, scanning, and digitally storing these documents for archival.
  • Becomes very familiar with all part Customer Interface Characteristics (CIC’s) and ensures that manufacturing operators are familiar with them as well.
  •   Audits the operators for knowledge and trains/re-trains the operator on CIC’s as necessary.
  • Audits the quality of product being produced at manufacturing operations. 
  • If nonconforming or suspect nonconforming material is discovered, immediately notifies the manufacturing supervisor. 
  • Works with the manufacturing supervisor to immediately contain the product, establish a clean point, and assist in implementing a sort / rework / certify situation.
  • Creates and publicizes Quality Alerts to address any nonconforming parts or a non-standard operations observed.
  • Audits the expiration dates of posted Quality Alerts and removes from posting any expired Alerts.
  • Operates the CMM or other dimensional equipment (Contracer, Hardness tester, Surface Finish Tester) to support the dimensional inspection of parts for on-going production or PPAP sample inspection / capability studies.
  • Provides support to the manufacturing team for technical questions and part quality decisions by acting as a liaison between the manufacturing team and the quality and engineering departments.
  • Uses a training sign-in sheet to document the identified training and re-training of operators in following SWI, JES, correct gage use, and part CIC’s.
  • Audits SPC data. Performs the routine maintenance and scheduled accuracy verifications of measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, depth gages, & magnaflux equipment.
  • Act as a liaison between maintenance and manufacturing to report any unsafe conditions, tool damage, poor 5S, or any other non-standard situations at manufacturing operations.
  • Maintains the JES books at work cells. 
  • Collects completed IIR sheets and for recordkeeping purposes scans and files the completed sheets.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, supporting 5S and health and safety initiatives.
  • Performs Layered Process Audits (LPA’s).
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities and submits improvement suggestions.
  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to including IATF16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook.
  • Follows MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment). 
  • Reports unsafe conditions.
  • Active participation in MAFACT Teams and activities as required. 
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits Cost saving improvement suggestions, CIP’s.
  • Treat team members with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Magna Employee’s Charter and Common Values.
  • Inspect parts on Magnaflux equipment & provide feedback to operations.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School/GED. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience\training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to work in a team environment and has a team-oriented work approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal and employee relations skills. 
  • TWI training.  Organizational skills, proactive and demonstrates creativity, initiative and ability to perform structured problem solving. 
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications or other related documents. 
  • Self-starter who is positive and professional. 
  • Can work in a fast paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Able to work hours require to support the manufacturing schedule as set forth by the manufacturing department.
  • Ability to motivate manufacturing employees to volunteer any issues or potential issues in production cells.

Additional Skills:

Language Skills:  Ability to read and write and comprehend instructions in English and correspondence such as safety rules and operating instructions.  Ability to document forms as required by position. 

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of AS400 and ability to use bar code labeling system.

Reasoning Skills:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The work environment for this job will be on the plant floor.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
