Job Description:

The Operations department is composed of multiple functions, including Cargo Operations, Time Charter Operations and a specialist Demurrage & Claims team. We handle products such as Oil, Bulk, Freight and Gas & Power.

We are responsible for the movement of these commodities from one place to another in accordance with the agreed terms of a Trade. We aim to do so to the Group’s best commercial advantage in the safest, most efficient and effective way possible. We are also responsible for ensuring that we act in line with regulations, legislation and always demonstrate the highest standards of compliance. 

Our teams are based in a variety of Gunvor offices around the world, ensuring non-stop coverage of our activities, as well as the support of specialist, local knowledge. Individuals manage varied aspects of post trade execution, interacting with many internal departments such as the commercial, finance, chartering, middle office and risk teams. Information critical to the success of each trade is exchanged with a large number of external parties, from counterparts to service providers and team members must be able to manage, validate and quickly determine which information is relevant and must be prioritized. Many roles demand a 24/7 effort and in all cases each day is different from the last and full of non-stop activity.

Gunvor aim to give all of our team members the personalized training and skills needed to identify and mitigate the risks associated with each trade as well as to find customized solutions which benefit both our counterparts and ourselves.

Main tasks:

  • Provides day-to-day oversight of desk operations, providing support and guidance to a group of Operators and Traders.

  • Learn how to coordinate all operational aspects of physical trading books' activity, ensuring Operators safely and cost-effectively turn a physical trade into reality, per the contractual terms.

  • Learn to assess operational and business risks, minimizing impacts which may impede success or growth of the Company/ Group and escalating those which require additional mitigation.

  • Report required information from Operations processes, to Team Leader or Regional Head of Operations, as part of core activities, on a daily basis.  Complete any other ad-hoc tasks as assigned by Team Leader, Senior Operator or Regional Head of Operations.

  • Learn specifics of various commodities, components and grade specifications, bulk product storage, product blending, inspection procedures, laboratory precision, and product regulatory compliance.

  • Develop knowledge of cargo shipment procedures, policies and industry standards, shipment regulations, truck, rail, pipeline and maritime technical terminology, as well as relevant transport laws and the impact on oil movement operations. Gain experience in vessel cargo operations interacting with ports/terminals, agents, cargo inspectors, canal transits, bunkering,  vetting, chartering, ship shore compatibility, blending on board, circulation, heating, internal transfers and international legal restrictions on vessels used for cargo shipments.

  • Learn to optimize trader strategies by utilizing knowledge of product movement and relationships with external parties, while accounting for the dynamics of delivery and supply, and resolving and communicating any transport issues that arise with traders.

  • Develop experience in trade recaps review, confirmations, contract review and execution. Learn to coordinate with internal credit group to confirm the issuance of Letters of credit as needed, along with the collection and presentation of required documentation to the Credit group, under a documentary letter of credit.  Learn to review product movement reconciliations, along with the developing the capacity to facilitate Loss Control investigations.

  • Develop capability to assess risk (technical, contractual and operational) in non-standard contracts, and implementation: new regions and/or long-term tenders.

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimal experience considered; entry-level applicants welcome

  • Fluency in English and Spanish

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills

  • Must be able to work independently and in a team. 

  • Must have good communication skills, capable of time management, and the ability to adapt and react to dynamic and changing circumstances.
