Job Responsibilities:

  • Polishing on A Class surface mould cavities and cores as required. Versed in all types of hardened tool steel polishing techniques from emery cloth to diamond pastes to polishing compounds.
  • Operate hand grinder/polisher. Use disc grinder and other grinding devices for grinding.
  • Transfer equipment, objects, or parts, to specified work areas, using moving devices.
  • Complete visual management (SQDP) tools as directed. Adhere to and enforces 5S requirements of assigned area.
  • Polished plastic injection molds and components by hand and with reciprocates.
  • Set up plastic injection molds and components to polish.
  • Reviewed mould and moulded component specifications to determine the appropriate tools, abrasives, and other materials to be used in the polishing process.
  • Inspected work pieces to ensure that surfaces and dimensions meet customer specifications.
  • Worked with Mold Makers and Supervisor to determine priority and scope of work for each mold.
  • Inspect molds to detect defects and verify specifications. Provide assistance and guidance to a team of Mould Makers and Apprentices to support production and related problems.
  • Promote and comply with health, safety, and environmental standards, safe operating procedures, good housekeeping practices and the observance of protective equipment requirements at all times.
  • Ensure compliance and enforcement of Customer Specific Requirements, QMS (IATF16949), Health and Safety (ISO 45001), EMS (ISO14001), and security (PIP) requirements.
  • Performed any other reasonable duties required by Management.

QUALIFICATION & SKILLS:

  • Secondary School diploma or equivalent
  • Completed Ontario Certificate of Apprenticeship (Mould Maker) Highly preferred.
  • Able To assist with Co-Extrusion die component polishing as required.
  • Must possess hand finishing capabilities, hand benching, Hardening Tool steel polishing, Lens grade polishing experience.
  • Ability to work well around mould parting lines.
  • Familiar with chemical, mechanical and fluid polishing methods.
  • Must be competent to achieve all SPI surface finishes with expert abilities in A1, A2 and A3
  • Good communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Must possess basic knowledge of electrical and hydraulics as applied to moulds.
  • Ability to TIG Weld and laser weld an asset
  • Minimum 2 years mould making experience, preferably in an automotive trim manufacturing environment
