Job Description Summary:

This position is a Registered Nurse (RN) who assumes a visible leadership role and is responsible for overseeing patient care and administrative activities in their respective units and care delivery. Oversees day-to-day assigned unit operations and continually evaluates quality and effectiveness of patient care, clinical judgment, productivity, staffing, and education as applicable to assigned area(s).

Qualifications:

  • Current Montana RN License or a multi state compact license with authorization to practice nursing within the state of Montana; required.  BSN degree preferred.
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year current unit specific experience required.  Whereas this position covers multiple areas, the experience must be in the unit of higher acuity.
  • Minimum of one (1) year leadership experience required.
  • Previous Charge Nurse or Nurse Supervisor experience preferred.
  • National Certification in unit specific preferred.  
  • Possess medical/clinical knowledge and technical skills for respective department(s)/unit(s).
  • To be eligible for the S.A.N.E Coordinator portion of the position as applicable to assigned area(s):
    • Previous S.A.N.E coordinator experience preferred.
    • National SANE-A and SANE-P certifications required.  National Certification in unit specific preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Assumes a visible leadership role and is responsible for overseeing patient care and administrative activities in their respective units and care delivery.  Oversees day-to-day unit operations as applicable to assigned area(s). 
  • Conducts annual performance appraisals according to HR guidelines.  Provides regular, scheduled feedback to employees regarding performance. In partnership with leadership, contributes to hiring, corrective action and termination decisions.
  • Evaluates quality and effectiveness of patient care, clinical judgment, interpersonal, and communication skills of assigned unit. 
  • Promotes staffing compliance and ensures safe staffing assignments. Monitors staffing to achieve productivity and budget standards.
  • Performs within the scope and standards of practice for Registered Professional Nurses in the state (as set forth by the current State Board of Nursing regulations, the American Nurses Association, and professional organizations specific to specialty to guide practice and standards within the work place).
  • Develops, revises and ensures compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and professional practice acts as applicable to assigned area(s).
  • Serves as a role model by providing leadership expertise, and serves as a clinical and administrative resource to others. Provides coaching and development opportunities for assigned staff as applicable to assigned area(s).
  • Serves as an advocate for the professional nursing practice and supports the work of the unit-based council.  Works in conjunction with the unit leadership to advance the practice of nursing and the delivery of care in a coordinated, supportive way.
  • Provides daily oversight of staff and patient care as applicable to assigned area(s) to include, but not limited to: 
  • Coordinates delivery of patient care in a professional manner in compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
  • Determines patient assignments and delegates’ duties according to appropriate patient acuity and skill mix of staff.
  • Coordinates the staffing requirements with unit leader and staffing office based on patient acuity, productivity and policy guidelines.
  • Communicates with staff to provide immediate feedback to correct deviations.
  • Communicates with the unit leader and documents any unusual events that occur during shift. To include, but not limited to; exceptional teamwork and professionalism, accidents, injuries, safety issues, deviations from appropriate patient care, breaches in professionalism, staffing abnormalities and special circumstances and variance from policy and procedure.

Schedule:

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week.  Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
