Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital is a fully integrated, state-of-the-art medical campus that includes diagnostic centers, outpatient surgery and a 24-hour emergency department. Martin North Hospital is part of the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, a nonprofit, multispecialty, academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education.  

An Outpatient Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) evaluates patients and applies a variety of therapeutic techniques to rehabilitate individuals with functional limitations, impairments and disorders. As a specialist in communication, the SLP assesses, diagnoses, treats and helps prevent speech, language, voice and swallowing disorders. In this role, you will help patients improve speech, expand communication abilities, and enhance their capacity to understand others, express themselves and swallow safely. This caregiver will support the speech language pathology team and rehab department while having the opportunity to provide help and float to other hospitals as needed.

This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working day shifts varying between 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with weekend availability.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Evaluate patients and apply a wide variety of therapeutic techniques for the rehabilitation of patients with functional limitations, impairments and disorders.  

  • Provide, interpret, plan and supervise patient evaluations and treatments in accordance with the physician referral, ensuring the care, safety and wellbeing of the patient.  

  • Continually review the plan of care and make revisions as needed.  

  • Prepare progress reports on all treatments in conjunction with departmental policies and procedures and report to the physician as needed.  

  • Instruct and counsel medical staff and family members to assist the patient in treatment techniques.  

  • Perform voice evaluations, treatment of various voice disorders and bedside swallow evaluations.  

  • Demonstrate competency with the MBSs for adults and pediatrics.  

  • Follow Code Blue and all protocols as per Clinic policy.  

  • Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals as outlined by the Joint Commission. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Masters, Doctorate or SLP-D Degree from an accredited school of Speech-Language Pathology

  • Registered in the State of Florida 

  • Current Speech-Language Pathology License (SP) from the State Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology or eligible  

  • Speech Pathologist (SP) license in the state of Florida 

  • Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American-Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA)   

  • Externship experience 

 
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Well-versed in outpatient SLP services including Speak Out and use of Vital Stim

  • Outpatient experience

  • EPIC experience
