Job Description Summary:

Tenure track appointments are full-time with an initial probationary period of seven years. Criteria for promotion includes significant achievements in teaching, research/scholarship, and service. The award of tenure is based on potential for sustained contributions, performing beyond expected duties, and demonstrating leadership and innovation in activities that enhance the reputation of the University.

The Clinical Scholar Track is for full-time faculty members who are heavily involved in clinical service, education, and related scholarship. This track has two career paths: Clinician-Educator concentrating on teaching and Clinician-Investigator for concentrating on research/scholarship. Significant contributions in professional and academic service are required for both paths.

Job Description:

Health System and Division Details

  • The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Kansas Health System located in Kansas City, Kansas, is seeking a full-time Board Eligible / Board Certified MFM.
  • Expect to join a very productive academic practice in a nationally recognized tertiary care facility that is perennially ranked by the U.S. News and World Reports as the #1 hospital in the State of Kansas and the Kansas City Metropolitan area.
  • Our 900+ bed facility is supported by a group of physicians who encompass more than 200 specialties. 
  • We have been recognized by the U.S. News and World Reports as a High-Performing Maternity Care Center.
  • Our group consists of 6 experienced MFM specialists who provide the entire spectrum of Maternal-Fetal care with cutting-edge technology.
  • Our practice is largely outpatient and consultative and includes the opportunity to perform amniocenteses, CVS, PUBS and fetal shunt placements.  
  • Call involves coverage of the inpatient High Risk Pregnancy service and is 1 week in 6 and is primarily phone-only after normal business hours.
  • Deliveries are managed by in-house hospitalist coverage.
  • Our Level III NICU is staffed by full-time Neonatology specialists who are further supported by multiple Pediatric Subspecialists including a Pediatric Surgery team.
  • Our Center for Advanced Fetal Care is supported by 18 sonographers of which the majority are fetal echo and nuchal translucency certified.  The ultrasound unit is accompanied by a separate area dedicated to the performance of fetal surveillance.  The Center is ADA certified and is further supported by a Diabetic Educator, 5 experienced nurse coordinators, 3 board-certified perinatal genetic counselors, medical assistants and patient service representatives that work in concert with the physicians to ensure efficient and premium quality of care for our patients.  
  • Our Division is active in research which includes NIH-funded grant studies as well as institutional and industrial collaborations.
  • Our program boasts an ACGME accredited three-year Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship.
  • The Division faculty members are involved in fellow, resident, and medical student education, and hold academic appointments from the University of Kansas School of Medicine.

Required Qualifications
Education/Licensure:

  • Successful completion from an ACGME Obstetrics & Gynecology residency and Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship program.  
  • Board eligible or board certified in maternal-fetal medicine.
  • Eligible for Kansas and Missouri medical license.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrate competence in areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships and technical skills. Outstanding written and communication skills. Experience highly desirable.

Job Duties Outlined
Management of high-risk service one week in six. Maintain an MFM ambulatory service. Interpret obstetrical ultrasounds. Perform obstetrical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. These patient-care duties may involve the attending physician only, or they may involve training medical students, residents, or fellows. Generally, support the other clinical and service activities of the Medical School.

Teach by giving lectures as assigned to faculty, fellows, residents or students.


Teaching in clinics and inpatient service of residents, fellows and medical students.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair or the Director of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division.
