JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management Department is looking for Leaders for its AURORA Programs. These Leaders have an array of responsibilities including, but not limited to:
· teaching and instruction of students,
· group and time management,
· risk assessment and decision-making,
· and trip management of trip logistics.
Leaders must be able to clearly instruct students on skills of backpacking and backcountry living. These include technical skills such as cooking and setting up shelters, as well as backcountry ethics that ensure a limited impact on the natural world. Leaders must be able to manage this teaching role with the responsibilities of managing a group in the backcountry. This includes real-time risk assessment, time management, provision of first-aid care (as needed), and more. Leaders also mentor and support students as they experience their transition to college life and explore their own leadership opportunities.
Qualifications include group management experience, Wilderness First Aid and CPR/AED certifications, driver’s license, and ability to drive a vehicle.
BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES
Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
