Job Summary:

We are seeking a hands-on Lead Software Engineer with deep expertise in front-end engineering to join our high-performing team.  In this role, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, high-performance web applications that power critical business functions

While the focus is on the front-end, a working knowledge of back-end technologies like .NET or Java would be a bonus, to effectively troubleshoot and collaborate across the full stack.  You will play a key role in driving engineering excellence, implementing best practices, and ensuring that the solutions we build are robust, maintainable, and aligned with long-term business goals.

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will architect and develop front end applications, ensuring they meet high standards for scalability, performance, and security. You will participate in and often lead technical planning, design sessions, and code reviews, driving high standards across the team. Collaborating closely with product managers, developers, QA engineers, and DevOps, you will help translate business requirements into elegant technical solutions.

You will actively support and maintain application health through logging, monitoring, and optimization. As a technical leader, you will mentor engineers, set direction on architecture and code quality, and foster a supportive and high-performing team culture. Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Provide hands on engineering leadership across squads
  • Collaborate with other leads to design and architect cloud native and service-oriented UI applications
  • Drive project success by collaborating with project managers to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaborate with product teams on design standards, processes, and adoption
  • Mentor team members through peer reviews, technical guidance, and creating reference implementations, while defining engineering best practices.
  • Foster collaboration to establish API contracts, maintain system standards, and influence best practices
  • Take ownership, self-sufficient, hands-on position on the team to lead and drive quality, maintain application stability
  • Champion quality engineering practices (linting, unit testing, web UI testing, pipeline automation) to enable continuous deployment.
  • Investigate and resolve any production issues from end user (UI) to service layer and work to prevent them
  • Assist in rapid prototyping of design concepts to prove and test ideas with end-users

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

Basic Qualifications

·       7+ years of experience in web application development or software engineering in a large enterprise environment using modern frameworks

·       Experience leading high-performing teams using Agile methodologies and frameworks

·       Expertise with JavaScript ES6+/TypeScript, native DOM interfaces, WebSocket protocol, REST/SOA patterns.

·       Expertise with programming using a best of breed UI stack: React/React Query, TypeScript, Tailwind, Jest, React Testing Library, Webpack, Babel, Node/Express, OAuth.

·       Have a track record of championing quality engineering; be adamant that all UI code is written in a way that can be tested both with unit tests and end-to-end tests.

·       Have a strong understanding of (and be opinionated about) browsers, devices, OS, and other user agent interoperability and compatibility concerns

·       Deep knowledge of DevOps tools (AWS or Azure, GitLab, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm) and observability practices.

  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail, ensuring pixel-perfect implementation.
  • Care about your craft and have opinions about the “right” way to do things.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical direction and influencing design decisions across teams
  • Experience mentoring senior engineers and leading code/design reviews at scale

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Previous work experience in Ad Sales, Traffic or Broadcast Operations application development
  • Strong curiosity about how Disney delivers the Magic and a desire to be a part of it
  • Prior experience as a tech lead or engineering lead on a cross-functional or distributed team
  • Track record of driving complex features or systems from inception to production in a leadership capacity
  • Experience contributing to long-term technical roadmaps and engineering strategy
