Position Summary:

This critical role will be responsible for day-to-day management of the entire accounting operations. This person will report to the Executive Director, Finance and Accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • This is a critical leadership role that will manage Terremoto’s whole accounting operations, including payroll, general ledger, accounts payable management, and perform month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations and preparation of financial data for both internal and external reporting.
  • Responsible for complex clinical trial and manufacturing accrual models to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with US GAAP
  • Lead the process of selecting & implementing new ERP system.
  • In the beginning, this role will work with external consultants to perform duties including processing AP, payroll and journal entries as we are gradually internalizing the accounting functions currently being outsourced.
  • Team up with internal accounting team and external consultants to build and maintain adequate account policies and process documentation & internal controls for risk mitigation and compliance.
  • Propose continuous improvements in accounting processes to accelerate the month-end close process and increase accuracy of financial reporting & to support business growth.
  • Lead the quarterly review and annual audit process, and support in preparation of tax provision and annual tax returns.
  • Ensure various tax compliances, including 1099, business property tax and use tax filings.
  • Assist in the preparation of various analyses, including flux and BvA analysis.
  • Coordinate with the insurance broker and carriers to properly mitigate risk.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years experience in accounting and finance, preferably a few years in public biotech companies.
  • At least 3 years in a leadership/supervisory role, managing a team and providing strategic direction.
  • Experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience with the implementation & user experience of an ERP system such as NetSuite, Oracle or SAP is very beneficial.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with implementation of internal control is plus.
  • Proficiency with Quickbooks, Carta, and Prendio is beneficial.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

* The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in South San Francisco, CA is $165,000 to $175,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Terremoto Biosciences, is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work only in other states.
