Job Details:

The Accounting department at Mercer University is searching for a Bookkeeper for the Macon, Georgia campus.


 

Responsibilities:

This position is primarily responsible for the day-to-day and the year-end accounting entries recorded into the finance system and is crucial in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the financial records.  The data maintained in the finance system includes a majority of cash entries, University sales tax and the reconciliation of certain University bank accounts.  This position works independently and is able to prioritize work; however, the position is under the direct supervision of the Director of Grants and Contracts and work is reviewed regularly.

Duties include:

  • Assist in the daily and yearly general university entries in the finance system to include cash receipts, cash disbursements, bank transfers and journal entries.

  • Monthly bank reconciliations for various bank accounts and ensuring timely and accurate reporting and payment of university sales tax accounts.

  • Monthly monitoring and preparation of transfers between various loan fund accounts ensuring proper documentation and authorization.

  • Tracking time and effort reporting for grant and contract accounts.

  • Work closely with other members of the accounting team and assist other departments with accounting related questions and assist with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:  

A high school diploma/GED and three years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in higher education or non-profit setting and/or bank teller experience, are required. Candidates who have an understanding in grant/contract management, sales tax regulations and fund accounting principles are preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Organizational skills

  • Detail-oriented

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
