What We Offer

  • Compensation – We support transparency, equity, and fairness in our compensation programs and provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range, based on data-driven market analysis, for each job posting. While it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role in Washington, DC (Headquarters) is $153,600 - $224,000. Team members may also be eligible for performance-based discretionary awards.

  • Hybrid work option – Staff will be assigned to the Washington, DC (Headquarters) office. Staff can choose to live and work from anywhere within the United States but will be required to commute to their assigned office or location for occasional intentional gatherings or meetings at the frequency required by their supervisor. Travel to an assigned office or location for commuting purposes will not be considered reimbursable business travel, unless otherwise required by state law. Business travel is reimbursable in an amount not exceeding the cost to travel from the assigned office or location, unless otherwise required by state law.

  • Generous paid time off – Up to 6 weeks annually, in addition to 12 federal holidays, 2 floating holidays, and a year-end break from December 25 –31, 2024

Role Summary

The PCAOB has a full-time position as a Data Architect in the Office of Chief Operating Officer – Office of Technology (OCOO-OT). This role will be responsible for creating the architecture and blueprints for building modern cloud-based data systems and capabilities that align with business strategy and technology standards while ensuring data security and compliance. These blueprints encompass various aspects, including data warehouses, databases, analytics tooling, modernization, migration strategy, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with PCAOB Divisions and Offices to translate business requirements into practical data solutions to include the design of databases, data flows, and data storage systems, as well as working closely with other teams within the organization to devise data strategies, build models, and assess stakeholder needs.

  • Create procedures to ensure data accuracy and accessibility by establishing and implementing data management processes, for efficient data handling.

  • Establish process and procedures to support the rationalization of data sources to reduce data replication and data silos.

  • Define Data Architecture Framework including considering security, reference data, metadata, and master data.

  • Research Data Acquisition Opportunities; stay informed about data sources and emerging technologies

  • Participate in detailed solution design sessions for data projects and review final solutions to ensure alignment with the PCAOB’s data architecture.

  • Develop data and metadata documentation for structural design and development.

  • Work with senior business stakeholders to secure strong engagement for solutions and ensure that the delivery of the project aligns with long-term strategic roadmaps.

  • Develop all aspects of ETL processes necessary to deliver data and analytic outputs; i.e., data loading, cleansing, storing, quality, transformation, and extraction.

  • Identify data and data relationships that are meaningful to address business issues.

  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex, large datasets using tools available to the team.

  • Effectively communicate complex findings on data into actionable and understandable results for high-level discussions with management.

Qualifications

Education/Technical Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in data warehousing, data modeling, data analytics, and cloud computing.

  • Deep knowledge of data management, data integration, data migration, and database development techniques.

  • Hands on experience with database technologies (e.g., Azure Analytics Services, SQL, NoSQL, SQL Server, Databricks).

  • Expert understanding of architectural strategies for data modeling and data preparation for AI, design to meet stated requirements for data management.

  • Deep hands-on expertise of SQL, Python, and/or R and experience with SAS or Stata..

  • Familiarity with ETL tools and platforms, cloud, and business intelligence tools: Azure, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure ML, Azure Data Factory, Informatica ETL, and PowerBI.

  • A self-starter able to administer several open, ongoing assignments at any one time, where some assignments are routinely unstructured, requiring autonomy and independent judgment.

  • Ability to clearly articulate a position with sound logic, supporting empirical evidence, and impartiality.

  • Ability to effectively represent OCOO-OT to a variety of internal and external constituencies.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation within complex organization dynamics.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiar with agile methods and processes and capable of supporting agile project teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impact, and risks.

  • Professional certification in data science or analytics.
