Job Description Summary
The Senior Counsel will be a member of the Business Banking Legal Team. The team consists of a dynamic and collegial team of professionals involved in a wide range of activities working to advance strategic priorities, provide best-in-class legal advice that is integrated with our clients’ objectives and ensure proper risk oversight across TD's Business Banking businesses. You will work with a team of talented legal professionals and have a chance to develop your leadership and legal skills every day.
Job Description/Accountabilities
As Senior Counsel (Business Banking), you will:
Possess a strong understanding of the legal issues and risks relating to lending, cash management and deposit products for business customers.
Demonstrate a curiosity for and stay on top of emerging legal issues, such as AI and Open Banking, to support innovation in the Business Bank. You will keep TD Legal, Business and Corporate colleagues up to date on legal issues affecting both Business Banking and the TD Bank Group.
Provide clients in Business Banking with strategic and tactical advice. You will advise on a wide variety of matters unique and emerging legal risks, regulatory matters, and development of new products and services. You will regularly brief senior executives and other members of TD Legal on key legal risks and development to inform strategic decision-making.
Be proactive and creative in working on a wide range of matters. Daily, you will jump in to provide timely and practical advice to colleagues across the Business Bank on specific transactions and initiatives, including questions on lending, deposits, fraud, and customer complaints, across a variety of industries. You will be a team player, willing to address both major legal challenges and smaller, routine issues with equal diligence and expertise.
Work collaboratively and build relationships with business and corporate areas in TD and other members of TD Legal to deliver the highest quality of service to the Business Bank. You will collaborate with other control functions such as Compliance, Privacy, Anti-Money Laundering, Fraud and Operational Risk to provide coordinated advice to the business. You will be an active participant in risk meetings, task forces and other working groups across the Business Bank and TD Legal.
Materially contribute to Legal Department initiatives, including knowledge management and workflow improvement.
Develop and implement processes and precedents to streamline work and find efficiencies for your team.
Experience and Education
Undergraduate degree or relevant professional certifications, designations, or equivalent required (JD/LLB)
Admission to the Bar in good standing and licensed to practice law in the state/province
5 - 10 years relevant experience.
