Position Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Director of Business Development to lead and inspire a high-performing sales team within our New Business Sales Team in London. This player-coach role requires a strategic leader who can manage and mentor a growing team while actively driving new business acquisition. The ideal candidate will have a passion for achieving results, a deep understanding of the digital advertising landscape, and a proven ability to sell directly to advertisers and brands, rather than through agencies. This role is crucial in expanding our direct-to-brand relationships and enhancing our market presence.

What you'll do:

  •  Leadership & Mentorship: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of 2-3 direct reports, fostering a high-performance culture. Provide guidance, support, and coaching to help team members achieve their sales targets and grow their careers.
  • Player-Coach Role: Balance leadership responsibilities with hands-on sales activities. Actively engage in the sales process, from prospecting and lead generation to closing deals, particularly focusing on key strategic accounts.
  • New Business Development: Identify, pursue, and secure new direct brand relationships within key verticals, driving revenue growth and expanding The Trade Desk’s market share. Leverage industry knowledge and contacts to open doors and build long-term partnerships with brands.
  • Team Performance Management: Set clear goals and expectations for the sales team. Regularly review team performance, provide constructive feedback, and implement strategies to achieve and exceed sales targets.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and execute a strategic sales plan for the London market, aligned with The Trade Desk’s overall business objectives. Analyze market trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Client Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with senior decision-makers at top brands. Ensure a deep understanding of client needs and position The Trade Desk as their preferred partner for programmatic advertising.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, marketing, and client services, to ensure seamless execution of sales strategies and client satisfaction. Share market insights and client feedback to help shape product development and marketing initiatives.
  • Reporting & Analysis: Provide regular reports on sales performance, pipeline status, and market conditions to senior leadership. Use data-driven insights to inform decision-making and strategy adjustments.

Who you are:

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in business development or sales within the digital advertising industry, with a strong track record of leading and mentoring high-performing teams.
  • Experience in a player-coach role is highly desirable.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage, motivate, and develop sales teams, with a focus on achieving targets and fostering professional growth.
  • Sales Acumen: Demonstrated success in new business acquisition, particularly with major brand clients. Strong negotiation and deal-closing skills.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the programmatic advertising landscape, including key trends, challenges, and opportunities within the industry.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and execute strategic plans that drive business growth and align with company goals.
  • Collaboration: A team player who can work effectively across departments to achieve shared objectives and deliver exceptional client outcomes.
