Job Description:

Sun Life’s talent acquisition team is looking for a strong leader who is passionate about driving change through incorporating innovative ideas, leveraging technology, KPI’s and metrics to enable us to find and hire great talent while delivering amazing experiences to our candidates and business leaders.

What will you do?

The Director, Talent Acquisition is accountable for leading Talent Acquisition segments for Sun Life in Canada as we strive to acquire in-demand talent in an increasingly complex and competitive labour market.  The Director leads a dynamic and talented team with a focus on developing and executing recruitment strategies to proactively source and recruit top talent for the organization.  You have an in-depth understanding of Talent Acquisition strategies and operations, the markets we operate in and the impact of organizations digitalizing.  You build excellent partnerships with internal stakeholders and stay connected to understand business needs and emerging trends. 

- Strategic and Data Driven Leadership

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiencies, amazing candidate experiences to find the best talent for the needs of today and the future
  • Design and implement talent acquisition strategies to source, attract, hire and/or redeploy talent to address the organizational needs of our clients
  • Leverage root cause analysis skills to review and analyze weekly recruitment metrics to identify areas of strength and opportunities across the operation
  • Manage the operation by leveraging KPIs and coaching the team to drive time and process efficiencies while balancing with great candidate and hiring manager experiences to find top talent

- Create a high-functioning team

  • Lead the continuing evolution of our talent acquisition consultant team in an environment that demands quick thinking, workload balancing, aggressive sourcing skills and a proactive approach to talent acquisition
  • Coach and develop Talent Acquisition Consultants on recruitment strategy, consulting skills, sourcing techniques including complex searches and process administration 
  • Elevate proactive sourcing skills and approach across the team to identify, nurture, convert, retain and redeploy talent

- Lead Cross functional Partnerships

  • Co-create with Business and Global Centre of Expertise Partners to ensure consistent overall governance and execution of the function and to capitalize on opportunities for synergy
  • Advise and participate in cross-functional initiatives as a Talent Acquisition subject matter expert.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Ten (10+) years of experience in Human Resources preferably leading and managing a talent acquisition function in a large matrixed organization
  • Managing remote teams in Montreal, Waterloo & Toronto
  • Experience leading the adoption of change initiatives, adoption of technology and building up of consulting skills
  • Experience managing teams by leveraging metrics and KPIs
  • Demonstrated team leadership and people management, hands-on coaching and mentoring experience
  • Expertise in talent acquisition best practices with an ability to adapt practices based on environmental considerations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to develop and nurture productive business relationships by establishing trust and partnership
  • Demonstrated consultative, interpersonal and project management skills
  • Comfortable with ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability to produce quality work in a collaborative, fast-paced matrixed environment, balancing high production with the delivery of long-term objectives
  • Knowledge of current talent trends and market intelligence
  • Lean management experience / continuous improvement mindset

Assets, but not mandatory:

  • BA/BS degree in Human Resources, business administration or related field
  • CHRL designation
  • Bilingual (English & French)

As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
