Job Description:
PURPOSE
According to the prescribed policies and procedures of the organization including all applicable federal, state and local regulations and under the general supervision of Director, Housing Accounting, the supervisor assumes responsibilities for performing the first review for 60+ Housing properties as well as training of their teams. He or she is involved in following a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies, and US GAAP. This position addresses tight deadlines and the supervision of a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and year-end audit preparation. The Supervisor interacts with property managers, RPL’s and members of other departments which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reviews 60+ audits with varying year-ends. Meets audit schedule deadlines as agreed upon in advance.
Responsible for training, coaching & development, and performance appraisals of direct reports (accountants and senior accountants).
Assists with hiring of direct reports (accountants and senior accountants). Ensures that the accounting department is staffed with qualified personnel capable of meeting the objectives and responsibilities of the department.
Daily interactions with direct reports including training opportunities and answering questions to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Ensure timely accounting month end and year end closes to reflect reasonable accounting results on a monthly basis (minimal year end audit adjustments).
Reviews and scores staff work throughout the year to minimize HUD & financial reporting findings, deficiencies & material weaknesses.
Involved in ensuring timely and accurate reporting to all government agencies, bond trustees, etc. as required by the individual corporation.
Ensures compliance with state agency and other special reporting requirements for assigned properties.
Responds to inquiries from HUD and other governmental agencies
Supports annual audits by providing information and answers to auditors.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Experience: 5 or more years performing the job responsibilities.
Mental: Must have good communication, comprehension, computer and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to speak, read, write and understand English.
Skills: Must have working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office Suite
