Job Summary:

The Executive Director, Cardiovascular Service Line is based at Wellstar MCG Health in Augusta, Georgia and oversees the strategic, operational, and quality aspects and have accountability for the direct reports of the cardiovascular operations. This includes may include but is not limited to cardiac cath, electrophysiology, cardiac admin recovery unit, CVOR, non-invasive testing (Echo, stress, EKG, Nuclear), perfusion services, cardiac rehabilitation, anticoagulation clinics, cardiology practices, cardiac inpatient units and telemetry monitoring centers. This role facilitates the integration and teamwork of all WMCG Cardiology Departments for optimal care of patients. Works with team members, leaders and physicians to adopt and incorporate quality initiatives and understand economic and strategic considerations. Responsible for development of strategic and tactical plans to maximize the effectiveness of Cardiac Services at the facility. This includes budget planning and management (capital and operational) strategic planning, compliance, scheduling, appropriate staffing, performance improvement and clinical trials oversight. The Executive Director identifies cost effective systems needed to support the business of the department, considering business trends, resource availability, and changes in customers.


This role will also have system level responsibilities to the cardiovascular hospital operations at all Wellstar Hospitals where cardiovascular procedural care is performed. Working as an administrative dyad with the CVSL Inpatient Hospital Physician Chief, this role will collaboratively execute on strategies, quality oversight, care standardization and value analysis initiatives across the service line. This leader will advise CVSL inpatient/HOD capital plans, surgery center strategies collaboratively with the CVSL and will partner with all stakeholders to integrate patient experiences, operational effectiveness, and system outcomes within the hospital and procedural operations of the CVSL. This leader will work collaboratively with the CVSL administrative leadership team to execute on the goals and strategies of the CVSL under the direction of the CVSL VP and Physician Leadership team.


This leader will be a key leader within the WMCG leadership team and in partnership with nursing to ensure efficient, high quality, and high patient experience across the entire hospital continuum of care. This position establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, team members, volunteers, and vendors.


A strong clinical understanding of the cardiovascular disease process and all aspects of hospital based cardiovascular procedures and testing is necessary. The ability to design and align resources to support the CVSL initiatives, program development, developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external referral sources are keys to success. The position will also work closely with departments across the system to identify opportunities to improve cardiovascular inpatient and procedural care, standardize operations, financial and quality value.


Required Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing is required.
  • Master's Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Nursing or related is required.


Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

  • Registered Nurse - GA or Compact


Required Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years progressive leadership experience in cardiovascular inpatient, procedural and/or non-invasive cardiology areas is required.
  • Experience as an administrative leader in cardiovascular services is strongly preferred.

  • Consistently demonstrates strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop leaders and team members, collaborate with physicians, and maintain positive patient interactions.
  • Proactively searches for and recommends opportunities to enhance practice services and revenue.
  • Strong physician relations experience and relationship building skills.
