Who we are looking for
State Street Investment Management (SSIM)—formerly State Street Global Advisors (SSGA)—is seeking a highly technical, hands-on leader at Vice President level to spearhead our entry into Quantum Computing. While this role is specifically focused on the practical application of quantum algorithms to solve complex financial problems, you will also lead high-impact projects in Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL) to ensure our technology ecosystem remains at the cutting edge. This Vice President role is important to shaping, driving, and executing the Quantum strategy that underpins the Investment Management division’s transformation.

As a key player within the Global Data, Analytics, and AI Services (DAAIS) organization, you will lead a specialized team, moving beyond theoretical research into the delivery of functional, scalable solutions that enhance our operating leverage and competitive advantage. You will they key subject matter expert responsible for quantum computing, software engineering, tools and framework adoption related to quantum applications in asset management —ensuring alignment with GTS standards and the target ecosystem blueprint.
This is a senior engineering role requiring deep expertise in quantum solution architecture, design, development and testing, combined with team leadership experience.
What you will be responsible for
Leadership
- Hands-on Technical Leadership: Lead the design and implementation of quantum-inspired and gate-based quantum algorithms for Fixed Income portfolio optimization, credit risk modelling, liquidity analysis, and other problems in Asset Management.
- Strategic Roadmap Delivery: Contribute to the 3-year technology roadmap by identifying high-impact use cases where quantum computing can enhance investment performance, reduce operational risk, and improve client outcomes.
- Lead implementation of quantum computing, quantum infrastructure, software engineering, exploration of related frameworks and tools, and observability.
- Start with individual contributor with potential to lead a local high‑performing quantum computing team —building a culture grounded in deep technology expertise and accountability (not traditional staff‑augmentation models).
- Champion engineering excellence, technical rigor, and innovation across the organization.
Engineering Excellence
- Innovation & Best Practices: Evaluate, adopt, and standardize cutting‑edge quantum computing capabilities—including analog or digital quantum computing platforms, tensor quantum computing frameworks, and libraries/tools from various vendors.
- Quality & Performance: Ensure solutions meet the highest engineering standards through code reviews, testing frameworks, and adherence to industry guidelines.
- Collaboration & Mentorship: Build a collaborative engineering community focused on continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and professional development.
- Security & Compliance: Uphold stringent risk, security, and regulatory requirements; ensure robust data protection and governance.
Execution & Oversight
- Direct Problem Solving: Act as a “player-coach”, spending a significant portion of time coding and architecting solutions within our public could environment.
- Fixed Income Integration: Collaborate with Investment and Global Technology Services (GTS) teams to integrate quantum workflows into existing data platforms and business services.
- Work with major vendors—including quantum platform providers and service partners—ensuring strong integration, service quality, and contractual outcomes.
Education & Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (PhD or master’s degree) required (Quantum Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related).
- Hard-Core technical Expertise: Exceptional quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven Execution: A results-driven mindset with the ability to navigate a fast-paced, matrixed global environment.
- Business Acumen: Ability to translate complex quantum concepts into compelling analyses for execution and senior leadership understanding.
- Integrity and Ethics: Maintains an unquestionable personal code of ethics and integrity in alignment with State Street standards
- Quantum Experience: a minimum of 5 years of hands-on coding experience specifically in quantum computing (e.g. Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane) applied to Asset Management or broader financial services problems.
- Machine and Deep Learning: Proficiency in building, training, and deploying neural networks using PyTorch or TensorFlow. Experience with Transformers, LLMs, and Reinforcement Learning for financial problem is highly preferred.
- Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of financial instruments, multi-asset class optimization, and the Institutional Asset Management landscape.
- Leadership History: Demonstrated experience leading technical teams and delivering multi-year technology projects.
- Fluent in English; highly detail‑oriented, results‑driven, candid, and execution‑focused.
Highly Preferred
- Prior Pascal, D-Wav, or IBM platform experience.
- CFA Level I or equivalent credential.
