Position Summary

The Senior Director, Business Operations Strategic Data Analytics will serve as a critical thought partner and strategic leader within our Global Development Operations (GDO) organization. This role will define and drive the analytical vision that underpins strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, and executive decision-making across GDO. The Senior Director will lead cross-functional collaboration with senior and executive leadership, translating complex data into clear, compelling insights that shape organizational strategy and accelerate operational performance.

The ideal candidate brings deep analytical expertise, executive presence, and a proven ability to build and sustain data-driven cultures within large, matrixed pharmaceutical organizations. This leader combines intellectual rigor with strategic business acumen — equally comfortable presenting to the C-suite and diving deep into complex datasets. Exceptional storytelling, the ability to drive change at scale, and a track record of leading high-impact initiatives are essential to success in this role.

This role also has the potential to be based in Boudry, Switzerland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the end-to-end analytics strategy for GDO, establishing frameworks for problem definition, data sourcing, insight generation, and executive storytelling that drive organizational clarity and strategic alignment.

  • Champion advanced data analytics capabilities across the organization, setting the standard for business intelligence, decision-support infrastructure, and data-driven performance management.

  • Lead cross-functional strategic initiatives, partnering directly with senior and executive leaders to translate organizational goals into measurable outcomes, KPIs, and performance accountability frameworks.

  • Drive executive-level communication through sophisticated storytelling and narrative design, distilling complex analytical findings into clear strategic recommendations for C-suite and board-level audiences.

  • Own budgeting and financial forecasting for key functional areas within GDO, providing executive leadership with forward-looking financial intelligence and ensuring consistent attainment of financial targets.

  • Architect and lead operational efficiency and work elimination strategies, identifying structural opportunities to optimize how GDO operates at scale.

  • Set the standard for strategic communication, institutionalizing best-practice frameworks (e.g., Pyramid Principle, Smart Brevity) across the organization to elevate how teams communicate strategy and outcomes.

  • Build and evolve performance management systems, including enterprise KPI frameworks, dashboards, and analytics infrastructure, with a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Provide strategic oversight of financial workflows between Global Program Teams and GDO OpEx, identifying opportunities to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency.

  • Spearhead the identification, prioritization, and implementation of AI initiatives within GDO, ensuring AI efforts are strategically aligned, responsibly governed, and scaled to deliver measurable business impact. Serve as a senior advocate for AI adoption and digital innovation across the organization.

  • Serve as a primary strategic partner to the Trial Analytics, Insights & Planning (TAIP) team and the Drug Development (DD) Strategy & Innovation team, aligning efforts across data, AI, and operational transformation to drive cohesive, enterprise-wide progress.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, Data Science, or a related field; Master's degree (MBA or equivalent) strongly preferred.

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in strategy, business operations, data analytics, or management consulting, with significant tenure in pharmaceutical drug development or life sciences organizations.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience at a Director or Senior Director level, with a track record of influencing senior executives and leading cross-functional, matrixed teams in complex, global organizations.

  • Prior management consulting experience highly preferred; ability to apply structured problem-solving methodologies to ambiguous business challenges.

  • Proven success building and scaling data and analytics capabilities that drive enterprise-level, evidence-based decision-making.

  • Deep expertise with data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and fluency in translating technical outputs into strategic business narratives.

  • Exceptional executive communication and influencing skills — able to command a room, simplify complexity, and drive alignment across diverse stakeholder groups at all levels.

  • Expert-level proficiency in communication frameworks (e.g., Pyramid Principle, Smart Brevity, TFSD) and the ability to coach others in their application.

  • Strong financial acumen, including experience overseeing budgeting, forecasting, and OpEx management in a pharmaceutical or similar regulated environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change and cultivate a data-centric culture across large, distributed teams.

  • Deep familiarity with governance, compliance, and risk management practices in a regulated pharmaceutical setting.

  • Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, and enterprise business analytics tools.

  • Solid understanding of clinical trial processes and drug development operations; hands-on experience strongly preferred.

  • Proven track record championing technology and AI-driven process improvements at scale; experience leading digital transformation initiatives a strong plus.
