The Role 

As a Head of Technology for the Platform Engineering organization, you will play a pivotal role in defining and executing the technology strategy for our core platform capabilities. Your leadership will be critical in driving innovation, scalability, and operational excellence across our platform engineering teams.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders across multiple domains, ensuring that our platform solutions align with the overall business objectives while providing best-in-class developer experience, infrastructure, and reliability.

This role requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic vision, and strong leadership to manage high-performing engineering teams, improve system performance, and improve automation across the platform.

What You’ll Be Doing 

Technology Strategy & Delivery:

  • Define and execute a long-term strategic vision for Platform Engineering to drive efficiency, scalability, and innovation.
  • Develop cross-domain and sub-domain strategies to reduce bottlenecks, improve collaboration, and accelerate software delivery.
  • Own the platform roadmap, balancing short-term deliverables with long-term architecture improvements.
  • Partner with engineering teams across different locations and time zones to build scalable, high-performance, and reliable platforms that support our sports betting and iGaming products.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices in DevOps, SRE, and cloud-native technologies to enhance platform reliability and security.
  • Ensure effective operational support, collaborating with Service Operations and Customer Support to maintain system stability.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Collaborate with commercial, risk, and product stakeholders to align platform capabilities with business needs.
  • Work closely with Tech Strategy and Principal Engineering teams to ensure architecturally sound and forward-thinking solutions.
  • Manage a significant technology budget, optimizing costs while ensuring engineering excellence.
  • Drive engagement with Flutter Group divisions on large strategic initiatives that impact platform engineering.

People & Leadership:

  • Attract, retain, and develop top-tier engineering talent to strengthen our platform engineering capabilities.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and innovation within the teams.
  • Champion engineering excellence, ensuring high performers are engaged and continuously challenged while providing structured support for career growth.
  • Implement agile methodologies and a DevOps culture, ensuring effective delivery processes and continuous improvement.

Performance, Stability & Operational Excellence

  • Ensure the stability, performance, and security of all platform components and services.
  • Drive improvements in observability, monitoring, and incident management for platform services.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies and internal partners to maintain compliance and ensure robust release processes.

What You’ll Bring

  • A proven track record building and effectively delivering through teams in a collaborative manner.
  • Experience defining and executing a strategic vision, working collaboratively and in partnership with our stakeholders on shared goals.
  • Focus on continuous improvement and stakeholder management to ensure that the department operates effectively.
  • Experience defining and implementing software delivery best practices, agile delivery methodologies, and proven track-record of continuously improving delivery pace while maintaining quality
  • Experience supporting teams with software systems in production including on-call support with a relentless focus on improving the stability, availability and performance of those systems
  • A natural leader of people and a strong team player with a collaborative style; a proven track record building and effectively delivering through teams.  
  • Strong communicator with a logical, structured, clear, credible, and mature style. Capable of engaging non-technical audiences of different levels.  
  • You work collaboratively and in partnership with our stakeholders on shared goals. Consistently seeks out and facilitates the sharing of others' ideas and perspectives and positively impacts the achievement of desired outcomes.
