As part of the Brand Strategy team, you will leverage consumer and business insights, competitive research and past campaign performance to build strategies leading to breakthrough creative development. As a brand planner, you'll interact with other Marketing Centers of Excellence in Media, Customer Insights and our Agency partners to shape these strategies and bring them to life.
Job Description:
The Senior Group Manager, Brand Strategy leads a high performing team supporting multi-complex portfolios on the development and execution of Marketing strategy planning, annual portfolio planning and acts as a key contributor in influencing business operational decisions. As a people manager, this role is additionally accountable for continuing to grow the Marketing professionals to bring innovation to the business by providing on-going feedback and performance reviews, coaching and developing employees and ensuring performance management activities are undertaken and providing regular input into employee assessments and development plans to continue to bring innovation to the work produced by the Marketing and portfolio team(s).
Depth & Scope:
- Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
- Oversees and leads a large and/or highly complex and diverse portfolio for an area of significant complexity, scope or risk, while growing talent, developing skills and capabilities to achieve career goals, support project/initiative success and achieve business results
- Leadership and approval of campaigns and oversight of marketing execution for all projects within portfolio, leadership role in all BU campaigns to ensure strategy execution, appropriate governance and stakeholder approvals are delivered
- Provides coaching, mentorship and guidance to practitioners, business, executives within area of expertise
- Manages and oversees the overall discipline and strategy for the respective areas while aligning to the enterprise best practices
- Acts as a strategic partner to leadership team on the management of the portfolio and financials, with deep industry, external/internal, enterprise knowledge, recognizing and anticipating emerging trends and; identifying operational efficiencies and opportunities with other business management/enterprise areas
- Facilitates key strategic discussions and provides thought leadership to executive audience (output may include strategic roadmap and/or deliverables/frameworks/short to long term goals, etc.)
- Sets operational team direction and collaborates with others to execute on common goals
- Focuses on longer-range planning for functional area (e.g. 12 months or greater)
Education & Experience:
- Undergraduate degree or relevant professional certifications, designations, or equivalent required
- 10+ years relevant experience
- Advanced knowledge of multiple marketing disciplines, strategy development, consulting principles, lines of businesses supported, banking industry, and product/customer markets
- Knowledge of current and emerging competitor and market trends
- Knowledge of risk management environment, standards and regulations
- Ability to contribute to strategic direction of the function and provide advice to senior leadership
- Ability to forecast initiatives and demand in order to develop annual strategic plan
- Skill in managing budgets, P&L and resource allocation
- Advanced ability to lead, plan, implement and evaluate program/project activities to ensure completion of product initiatives
- Skill in talent development and performance management
- Ability to exercise sound judgement in making decisions
- Ability to make an impact, influence and achieve results with effective negotiation, problem-solving and communication skills

Preferred Skills:
- In lieu of 10 years relevant experience, we would accept 7 years of relevant experience with an undergraduate degree in Communications or Advertising.
- Experience managing agency relationships
- Ability to influence through comprehensive, clear executive-level internal stories
- Strong creative lens and an ability to influence creative outputs through thoughtful, strategic feedback
- Experience coordinating complex video productions (ie. TV advertisements)
- Experience working with media agencies/media plans preferably in offline channels (TV, OOH, Audio)
- Experience with consumer insights including various types of customer research (value proposition, creative testing, etc.)
- Experience with Quarterly Brand Tracking and Brand KPIs
Customer Accountabilities:
- Customer Insights & Trends; Coaches team to understand and synthesize consumer trends, identifying research gaps and planning market research, interpreting consumer information for your business, anticipating customer opportunities, generating and applying customer insights
- Builds and Protects the Brand; Identifies the brand's strengths and weaknesses, recognizes the drivers and indicators of brand health and recommends corrective actions. Applies the Brand House to all aspects of marketing and acts as the key resource for the business on the brand. Understands end to end customer journeys and supports the business to deliver the brand through customer experience
- Influences Business Strategy; Provides thought leadership, strategic advice to executives within the business, is the voice of the customer and a trusted advisor to business partners for all marketing and customer activities. Influences and has an impact on price, product, distribution and promotions. Builds and maintains close working relationships with key business partners to understand and influence business strategic priorities, and direction, ensuring that business objectives can be converted into effective marketing plans or customer strategies
- Business Marketing Plan Owner; Sets the tone and ensures the integrity of the approved Annual Marketing Plan is being delivered in a transparent way. Constantly evaluates and recommends change to improve business impact via marketing investment
- Integrated Marketing Campaigns; Leadership and approval of campaigns and oversight of marketing execution for all projects within assigned limits and parameters to ensure strategy execution, appropriate governance and stakeholder approvals are delivered. Coaches and leads the team through the development of budget allocations, media strategy and creative executions. Leverages and builds relationships with internal/external lead creative and media agencies

- Works closely with key business leaders to develop business plan, ensuring the optimal use of resources and leverages TD’s operating model to maximize efficiency, effectiveness and scale
- Plans and executes on strategic activities, reviews and communicates results, and adjusts tactics accordingly
