Provo City is looking for part-time Ushers to work in our Arts Center. Ushers are responsible for the customer service and safety of the audience before, during, and after a performance. Qualified, civic-minded individuals are encouraged to apply.

What is the compensation?

Pay Rate: $11.00 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.

What will I do?

  • Greet patrons of diverse personalities in a welcoming manner and verifies tickets with event attendees.

  • Assist guests in finding their seats, locating exits, and amenities such as restrooms.

  • Calm and resolve disputes regarding tickets and seats.

  • Distribute programs, brochures, and other event materials.

  • Ensure aisles, walkways, and designated seating areas are clear, clean, and safe.

  • Learn venue layout and operating guidelines, which change based on the performances.

  • Assist guests with complaints or concerns; escalate concerns to supervisor when necessary.

  • Attend pre-event Usher meetings and other trainings as required by management.

  • Follow all emergency protocols and guide audience members to the exits in an orderly manner.

  • Support event staff as needed and perform other related duties as assigned.

What do I need to apply?

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Any experience that indicates an ability to perform the essential duties of the position.

  • Consistently professional, neat presentation displaying the diplomacy, tact, friendliness, poise and firmness that the situation requires.

What are the hours?

Schedule is based on performances or events Monday through Saturday. Typical hours are between 6pm and 11pm with occasional daytime matinees. Must be available evenings and weekends.

    What are the physical and environmental factors?

    This work requires: walking; sitting; bending; reaching; and lifting (up to 50 lbs.) This work may require climbing stairs in dimly lit or dark areas and standing for long periods of time. Requires working with crowds in diverse and potentially n stressful situations.

    What is the selection process?

    This position is open until filled and will be closed when sufficient, qualified applications to proceed with a competitive selection process have been received (at least seven days). Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

    If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
