As a key member of the operations leadership team, the Vice President of Manufacturing is responsible for overall business unit operations, and his/her mission is to guide and direct the operations team to maximize operations efficiency and customer loyalty while maintaining world-class quality performance at optimal cost levels. Of paramount importance is to continue Altium’s brand as a leading packaging solutions provider known for best-in-class design and quality. The role has single-point accountability for all Safety, Quality, Production, Cost, Service, and Morale metrics for their region.

The Vice President of Manufacturing directs and leads a team, including Operations Director(s), Regional Operation Manager(s), and Plant Managers, in a manner aligned with Altium’s Guiding Principles: Act with Integrity and in Compliance, Drive Value Creation, Be a Disciplined Entrepreneur, Focus on the Customer, Act with Humility, Treat others with Dignity and Respect, and Seek Fulfillment in Your Work.

The Vice President of Manufacturing will be responsible for locations in the Mid-West and Canada regions. The role will ideally be based in Atlanta, or within the region. The role will require 40-60% travel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of operations and plant leaders to consistently deliver forecasted production output based on business commitments.  Model and drive accountability at every level, pushing self and others to reach milestones.
  • Responsible for revenue attainment, inventory management, cost containment, budgeting, and development of manufacturing and distribution strategy. 
  • Champion continuous process improvements through Altium Production System (APS) across all aspects of operations: production, assembly, quality, and facilities management.
  • Achieve and maintain a safe work environment that meets ISO, OSHA and environmental requirements.
  • Deliver excellent and consistent quality to our customers in order to develop and maintain strong and sustainable relationships with all of our customers
  • In conjunction with COO, Finance, and other business partners, develops the annual plan and forecasts, broken down into specific objectives and measures in alignment with overall business objectives.

The Ideal Candidate: 

Operations focused leader who has managed a significant manufacturing operation, with multiple sites, of $500 million or more.  Must have a thorough knowledge of TPM and/or lean manufacturing methodologies and a proven track record of successfully managing in an agile business environment. 

Qualifications

The successful candidate’s qualifications will include:

  • Plastics or related consumer packaging market experience, or allied products or services sold (B2B) to Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) Companies, Food, Health & Beauty, or Industrials.
  • Persistent, forceful, and tolerant in the face of pressure and obstacles with an ability to consider a multitude of solution options.

  • Implements engineering and commercialization projects, incorporating the newest technologies, resolving problems, and ensuring Operational readiness for Vertical Startup.   Seeks out, qualifies, and incorporates the newest applicable technologies
  • Collaborates and builds relationships within Operations and across the Company with other functions, including but not limited to Sales, Finance and Accounting, Marketing, R&D, Legal, HR, and IT.  Develops and maintains a strong partnership with Engineering and Commercialization.
  • Develops, expands, and executes relationships with third-party vendors.  Working with Procurement, leads transformation of current vendor paradigms to drive incentive-based performance standards.
  • Is a core member of the Operations Leadership Team.
  • Plays a critical role in Altium Capital Management, ensuring value-added usage of our capital spend and driving capital efficiencies by partnering with the APS team to drive more effective maintenance practices through understanding off-asset life cycles and replacement schedules.
  • Challenges current practices in plant operations that limit opportunities and suboptimizes throughput and reliability. 
  • Proactively communicates to all cross-functional groups and individuals within Altium, recognizing that communication is effective only when the sender and the receiver both own the responsibility for the delivery of accurate and timely messages.
  • Drives safety, quality, cost, reliability, delivery, and morale improvements through both technology and cultural improvements.
  • Identifies and mitigates resource constraints in our implementation plans.  Escalates when a solution cannot be found. 
  • Ensures that their region is designed to deliver against Altium’s Vision and the Operation’s Compelling Business Need.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Operations, or related disciplines.
  • 15-20 years of manufacturing experience; 10+ years in leadership level position.
