Job Description Summary

The Project Portfolio Director is responsible for the overall project execution and delivery, profit & loss accountability, and customer satisfaction through management of project related activities and resources. You will be accountable for identifying, assigning and leading a group of competent PDs/PMs to execute a portfolio of projects to achieve business outcomes in safety, quality, compliance, on-time delivery, customer satisfaction and financial targets (cash, revenue, margin, past dues). Will be responsible for early identification of critical issues/gaps and develop a strategy with appropriate action plans for proactive resolution. PD ensures compliance with business directives and EHS standards.
The role is accountable for the successful execution of Grid Solutions HVDC projects in India including those full scope Turnkey and refurbishments. Also the PD shall be able to assess the PDG organization supporting projects in APAC region.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

Project Leadership: Owns the project portfolio and takes full accountability for the outcome, even when things don't go as planned. Empowers the PMs to take ownership of their own projects and finds the right balance to step in and actively support as needed. Has the ability to prioritize and strategically manage resources (people and equipment) for immediate and future needs. Creates a clear vision and establishes the right priorities for the entire project team to deliver on SQDC at a portfolio level. Creates a healthy team atmosphere where collaboration, inclusion and trust is encouraged and ideas can be shared openly. Applies active listening in order to gain broader perspective for improved project outcomes.

ITO Support/ Customer Management: A right level of engagement with customer on future projects and coordination for business development activities including participation in Risk reviews, ensure internal handover meeting will be part of this role.

Project Integration: Integrates foundational knowledge of project execution disciplines (scheduling, plant design, construction, cost, etc.) in order to forecast potential issues, make sound judgements and define the right execution strategy at a portfolio level.

EHS Leadership: Promotes and imposes GEV’s Safety Toolkit and overall EHS standards on project team, partner and subcontractor. Makes no compromise on EHS and is able to take tough decisions with customer, partner and subcontractor when GEV's standards are not met.

Execution/Revenue & Margin: Lead Project delivery in Region to achieve Revenue and Margin on revenue for GSI business. Margin on sales are further improved by way of PMRs and mitigation of various risks i.e. LDs, Overruns etc, which may arise during the execution of the projects. Your role is to have a continuous check on possible and emerging risks and necessary risk mitigation action during the project cycle. Timely execution of the project is key to success and person shall engage in customer and other stake holders to solve critical and strategic problems related to the delivery of project.

Cash Focus: Position demands that a continuous reconciliation of the project cost books are done with financial controllers. Timely Invoicing and collection of payments from customer and monitoring the Past Dues.

Measuring KPIs/Milestones: Ensuring Ontime delivery of projects and continuous monitoring of the various KPIs in coordination with various stakeholders of delivery model i.e. Project controls, Engineering ,Procurement and Construction.

Process Implementation: Deployment of various Project Management tools in the project delivery model and to ensure that right knowledge of the same is imparted to the PM community by way of  a regular competency assessment of the team and planning of necessary trainings. The entire conduct shall be done in compliance withing the integrity framework and also in adherence to the EHS guidelines. It is our prime responsibility to ensure that every individual involved in our projects goes home safe.

Operational Effectiveness: Brings about desired change across the portfolio, sharing best practices and lessons learned by engaging cross-functional subject matter experts and senior management. Recognizes the need to escalate issues on time to management and can propose solutions to highly critical issues to senior management.

Project Close Outs: Project close out and final collection of Bonds & Guarantees. Closing the projects in unifier Techo and CLSD of the projects.

Qualifications/Requirements:

•            Engineering degree from an accredited university or college

•            At least 10 years’ experience in leading the execution of complex infrastructure projects in challenging environments

•            Extensive experience in negotiation of complex contracts and sound commercial understanding of project feasibilities, market differentiators and the business.

•            Experience in managing large projects

•            Experience of Health and Safety leadership in challenging project environments
