Senior Nursing Director

As the Senior Nursing Director at Akron General Hospital, you will participate in strategic planning and financial management, caregiver development, quality improvement and the coordination of multiple disciplines. It’s vital the caregiver in this role ensures the coordination of comprehensive, multi-disciplinary patient-centered programs across the continuum while creating a culture that promotes and environment of healing by focusing on the emotional and physical well-being of both patients and caregivers. The nursing leadership structure at Akron General Hospital is collaborative and highly encourages innovation and creative problem solving.  

 

A caregiver in this position works 8:00am – 4:00pm and will be required to travel to Akron General’s off-site locations in Bath, Stow, Green and Lodi.  

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Develop departmental goals and objectives consistent with medical, administrative, legal and ethical requirements of the healthcare delivery system. 

  • Develop educational programs and resources to support best nursing practices and specialty needs of nursing. 

  • Develop business strategies to support and market patient-centered programs within nursing. 

  • In collaboration with other leaders, address nursing standards related to specific areas of responsibility. 

  • Lead and direct the inpatient and outpatient Nurse Managers in providing consultation. 

  • Serve as a resource to caregivers regarding nursing practice. 

  • Support and advise the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) with project management and committee participation as needed. 

  • Follow hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code, display of ID badge and safety. 

  • Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).  

  • Master's degree. 

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). 

  • Five years of clinical practice including three years of healthcare management experience. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in nursing management within a large healthcare facility.  

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Health system experience. 

  • Demonstrated success in a director level position leading multiple departments and/or service lines.  

  • Strong executive presence.  

  • Ability to build relationships and lead change to achieve outcomes.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to sit and be stationary for prolonged periods of time, normal or corrected vision and manual dexterity sufficient to perform work on a personal computer.
  • Requires the ability to walk to various locations throughout the campus and to function in a stressful environment.
  • Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
  • Note: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
