The SUPV Garage oversees the day-to-day operations of the maintenance and repair of the cemetery fleet. This role includes managing mechanics and technicians, ensuring safety standards are met, coordinating repair schedules, and maintaining records. The supervisor ensures all vehicles and heavy equipment are serviced efficiently and cost effectively, while minimizing downtime.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

Maintenance and Repair

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of garage staff (mechanics, technicians)
  • Schedule maintenance (PM) and repair tasks for company vehicles
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and assign repair tasks to appropriate personnel
  • Ensure vehicles are repaired safely, promptly, and in line with industry standards
  • Monitor inventory of tools, equipment, and parts; reorder supplies as needed
  • Maintain accurate service logs, maintenance records, and reports
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Train and mentor junior staff; evaluate employee performance
  • Work with Superintendent regarding new equipment needs

People Development

  • Trains staff on small engine and heavy equipment repair, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrates proper operation of machinery and equipment.  Recommends procedure revisions. 
  • Develops a strong, trusting, and reliable team. Understands team members career aspirations and provides assignments to develop skills and close gaps. 
  • Constructively addresses issues and provides timely appropriate feedback. Provides performance assessment input to management. Applies a proactive and collaborative communication style.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Certification/License

  • Valid state driver’s license in good standing
  • ASE Certification preferred

Experience

  • At least five (5) years’ experience in vehicle maintenance or mechanical repair
  • Leadership experience a plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Familiarity with fleet maintenance software and digital tools
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
  • Good communication and record-keeping abilities

  • Work outdoors during all seasons and weather conditions
  • Comply with Field dress code policy

Work Postures

  • Frequent, continuous periods of time standing, bending, or kneeling while working on equipment, up 6 hours per day
  • Climbing stairs to access buildings frequently

Physical Demands

  • Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required, frequent use of hands and fingers for precise tasks like disassembling and assembling engine parts.
  • Operation of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic devices, and small machinery.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 pounds
