Job Summary:

Functions under the direction of the CVOR Department Director, Manager, Clinical Coordinator and Anesthesiologist. Provides age appropriate patient care, which addresses biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial and patient/family educational needs. Has expanded cardiovascular experience in complex, multi problem, urgent, emergent and lifesaving cardiac operative procedures. Has in depth knowledge regarding biomedical equipment and physiology of the heart. The Cardiovascular Anesthesia Technologist assists the peri operative team in the operating room with cardiac surgery procedures, including but not limited to Coronary Artery Bypasses, Valve replacements, Aneurysm Repairs, Emergency procedures, Temporary and Permanent Pacemaker Implantation, Cardioversions, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, Pericardial Window procedures, Ecmo procedures, VAD procedures (LVAD, BI-VAD, RVAD), TAVR procedures, Convergent procedures, VATS procedures, and Tegs . Administers direct and in-direct care of patients undergoing the above procedures with supervision from the Registered Nurse, Clinical Coordinator and Manager.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Set up anesthesia supplies in OR suites including pumps IV lines and IV fluids. Assist anesthesiologists in preoperative line placements ie: central lines, swan ganz catheters, arterial lines, etc. Troubleshoot and maintain all corresponding equipment. Picks up patients for surgery and assists patient transport to and from holding areas to surgical suites and to recovery areas. Assist with patient transfer to OR bed. Responsible for placement of EKG leads, R2 pads, and any other monitoring devices as needed under the supervision and direction of physicians, and nursing. Ability to understand, direct, teach and troubleshoot invasive/non-invasive monitoring equipment. Maintains skills and competency checks for identified equipment and quality control responsibilities. Obtain blood products, pharmacy products or any other products as needed. Maintain competency in obtaining, setting up and managing IABP during procedures. Provides support as needed to the cardiac ICU and Cath lab with IABP management and troubleshooting. Pick up ICU beds and prepare transport monitors / cables in a timely manner. Obtain supplies/equipment needed by anesthesia and OR staff throughout procedures as needed. Mop, clean and turn over OR suites at end of case and ensure proper stock of anesthesia supplies for to follow case. Cleans bins in anesthesia workroom and anesthesia supply carts and checks each for outdates. Manage and restock inventory of all specialty supplies and anesthesia carts. Stock sheets, blankets etc. Maintain and stock appropriate levels of fluid in warmer/ refrigerator and linen and trash bags. Maintains and restocks surgical scrub supplies at scrub sinks, at OR entrances, and dressing rooms with hats, masks and shoe covers. Checks and replaces sharps containers in CVORs and CARU cardiac prep rooms. Assists RNs and surgical technicians with room set up, supply management and patient charges. Flexible to the high call volume to support over 1000 cases per year. Must be flexible with schedule and understanding in the urgency of care with cardiac patients. Schedule may be altered by manager when other staff members are on vacation and / or when the needs of the schedule dictate. Must demonstrate positive teamwork behavior and communication. Will be required to teach and orient new staff. Participates in performance improvement, quality measures, NPSGs, nursing shared governance and all other department projects and meetings. Must support the departments needs, take direction with ease and perform all other duties as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education:

High school diploma Required or equivalent Required and IABP management training within 6 months of hire. Required

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • Cert Anesthesia Tech-Preferred
  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Maintains BCLS certification Upon Hire Required

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 3 years recent experience in cardiovascular specialty Required

Required Minimum Skills:

In depth knowledge of network computer applications, invasive/non- invasive monitoring, defibrillator testing, trouble shooting of all perioperative anesthesia equipment required and monitoring all temperature regulated equipment. Must be able to effectively communicate and understand verbal and written English language and display a positive attitude.
