A caregiver in this position works Monday - Friday from 3:00pm – 11:30pm with weekend on-call requirements.  
 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assist physicians in the preservation and evaluation of organs for transplantation.  

  • Maintain laboratory environment and supplies.  

  • Prepare equipment, solution and drugs for harvesting, preservation and transplantation of organs. 

  • Assist the operating room caregivers as necessary before, during and after donor organ recovery procedures, as well as during organ transplant procedures. 

  • Assist physicians with organ harvesting, organ packaging and labeling and with organ transport from out of state or to other local hospitals as required. 

  • Coordinate with the Transplant Center and OPO to ensure the receipt of donor organs from an outside institution is conducted according to established regulations. 

  • When indicated, prepare organs for perfusion. 

  • Evaluate the suitability of organs during preservation for transplantation. 

  • Monitor the preservation parameter during perfusion preservations by recording pressures, flows and taking samples for other test. 

  • Assist physicians with bench surgery. 

  • Ensure the cleanliness of the Organ Preservation Lab. 

  • Ensure Organ Preservation Lab equipment is optimally maintained and arrange for repairs/replacements as applicable. 

  • Assist in organ preservation research studies as applicable under the direction of the Principal Investigator and their team. 


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High school diploma or GED.  

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.  

  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.  


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Medical-related certification, such as a Paramedic, Medical Assistant, Surgical Technician, etc. 

  • Recent healthcare experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to use surgical equipment and to assist with surgical procedures.
  • Normal or corrected vision.
  • Must be able to be on call on a regular basis on weekends and during the week.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment.
