Phlebotomist Technician/Clerk

As a Phlebotomist Technician/Clerk, you’re the face of the lab. You’ll help patients feel calm and comfortable before and during their tests while providing them with an efficient, professional lab experience. 

A caregiver in this position works 6:30am – 5:00pm.  

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Perform specimen collection, initial sample preparation and delivery of specimens. 

  • Assist with patient registration, address patient concerns and coordinate appointment schedules.  

  • Collect demographic information from patients, including insurance or payment information. 

  • Verify patient demographics, test information, sample identification and specimen type. 

  • Collect biological specimens by venipuncture and micro collection techniques. 

  • Observe patients for adverse effects and report to the supervisor.  

  • Prepare samples for testing.  

  • Identify, accession and transport specimens.  

  • Answer incoming calls and assist callers.  

  • Maintain accurate records regarding the collection of data.  

  • Maintain a clean, neat work area and ensure appropriate levels of inventory.  

  • Assist in the training and/or orientation of new caregivers.  

  • Attend in-services, continuing education and training programs and meetings.  

  • Complete mandatory education and training and maintain certifications and licensure. 

  • Float to other locations as needed.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High school diploma or GED. 

  • One year of experience with specimen collection and laboratory techniques and procedures. 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire.  

  • Knowledge of basic office equipment and procedures.  

  • Proficiency in the use of PC software applications.  

  • Strong typing, data entry and interpersonal skills.  

  • Ability to travel from site to site as required 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program of a similar formal training program.  

  • Experience with patient registration and insurance billing.

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity sufficient to operate equipment requiring fine adjustment.
