Job Description

Vertex Pharmaceuticals, is recruiting for a Medical Affairs Intern in Spain. This Internship position focuses on providing students with a practical approach to the biotechnology industry from a scientific and medical perspective and in an environment of effective cross- collaboration among teams.

The intern will be contributing to medical affairs in Spain as part of one-year intern program and will work under the supervision of the Country Medical Director and in close collaboration with an AD Medical Affairs.

The position:

This position will focus on the opportunity to learn and serve as a scientific liaison to the medical community primarily in the area of hematology. The role will be able to develop and adapt projects involving the Medical Affairs role, such as contribution to medical insights generation, data dissemination, implementation of medical and scientific education events, and advisory boards support.

The intern Medical Affairs will work within a mature medical affairs team in Spain, being exposed to cross- functional team collaboration with members of international medical affairs and colleagues from marketing and commercial departments in Spain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the medical affairs team to develop ongoing projects, and future education activities in Spain.
  • Mediate between international medical affairs teams and external experts to facilitate participation and engagement of local stakeholders in medical initiatives ongoing.
  • Assist with medical activities such as preparation of slide decks, generation and distribution of meeting agendas, and overall support to projects related to medical operations and education.
  • Support the medical affairs plan and its execution.
  • Interact with experts in the management of erythropathologies and other health care professionals (HCPs) to ensure the appropriate dissemination of clinical and scientific information regarding Vertex’ s products in a timely, ethical and stakeholder-focused manner.
  • Collect, analyze and report insights from HCPs and external environment to inform and shape medical strategy.
  • Attendance to internal and external medical meetings, facilitating the consolidation and implementation of priorities and goals.

Skills & experience

  • Graduated in biology, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, medicine or other life science related discipline
  • Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited institution pursuing graduate study in PharmD, PhD, MPH or other master’s program in a science related field
  • Medical Doctor or Doctoral degree (PharmD, PhD) preferred
  • Ability to learn complex medical and scientific information and to be able to communicate efficiently
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, highly organized
  • Strong personal integrity
  • Ability to travel
  • Fluent in English and Spanish (oral and written).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Power Point

1.    Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2.    On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
