Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
Micron’s Compute and Network Business Unit (CNBU) has an opportunity for a Systems Performance Engineering Manager, based in Austin, TX! This role will help drive the data center and client AI-PC system workload engineering (DCWE) team by understanding how systems are composed using Micron's memory hierarchy!
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Lead a team of systems engineers on performance engineering, systems architecture, memory hierarchy, workloads analysis and system composition.
- Cross collaborate to identify workstreams to showcase the value proposition of the memory products, derive and drive requirements with engineering, engage with customers on system architecture PoC and deliver thought leadership collateral.
- Support workload engineering collateral towards business development, customer engagement and workloads-based product positioning, performance characterization, systems architecture analysis, future design via systems performance analysis, simulation, emulation and evaluate prototype software systems
- Analyze and characterize workloads in several areas such as AI/ML training/inference, data analytics, HPC, databases, virtualization, gaming and rendering, system architectures and AI-PC systems and emerging accelerator technologies in concert with the memory hierarchy therein.
- Understand workloads using several applications, overall system and memory subsystem based metrics (including efficiency, performance, power, memory bandwidth, latency, battery life, micro-architectural usage, etc.)
- Defining Memory Systems’ architectural requirements with market competitive analysis for platforms
- Developing, evaluating and optimizing new memory architectures that continuously improve cost, performance, power efficiency of DRAM products
- Defining performance, power metrics for DC and Client-Edge platforms and quantifying solutions with supporting analysis
- Evaluating and demonstrating architecture trade-offs that impact memory subsystem performance
- Study system balance ratios for DRAM/HBM/CXL/NVMe in terms of capacity and bandwidth, memory expansion analysis vis-à-vis and study the interplay between these products and understand TCO
- Own performance analysis end to end, including value proposition to showcase a product, collecting requirements from team members, putting together a system architecture, compiling a set of key workloads in AI/ML and gaming, conducting experiments and analyzing the data, deriving key insights and collaborate with team members.
- Deep-memory hierarchy such as DDR, HBM, MRDIMM, LPDDR, CXL, GDDR and high-capacity DRAM.
Requirements
- BS or higher degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and at least 10+ years in Systems architecture, DRAM, NAND IPs, SoC, IP Design & Performance Analysis for Server/Client systems, Computer systems (server) and Memory or Storage Architecture
- 3+ years in experience in leading people or project management with strong communications skills with the ability to articulate results; self-motivated and problem-solving skills
- Experience in CPU, GPU, AI Processors, DDR, HBM or systems development
- Experience in critical metric (Power, Performance, Thermal) analysis and in reviewing the various profiling (Latency, Power) tools
- Experience with performance analysis, modeling, emulation or simulation
- Profiling AI training / inference models in generative AI, computer vision recommendation and NLP on CPU/GPU systems using HBM/DDR; ML models in LLM, vision, HBM bandwidth and capacity
- Study the impact of model quantization and GPU, HBM resource usage and needs, memory/core, byte/FLOP and memory bandwidth/core/FLOP requirements for a variety of workloads to influence future products
- Software development experience in building simulators for processor or memory subsystems
