About This Role:
As the Associate Director of Business Planning, you will be a pivotal part of the Biogen North America (BNA) Commercial pharma finance team. Tasked with delivering strategic financial insights, you will play a critical role in financial reporting, forecasting, and business planning activities. In this position, you will work closely with the Head of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to ensure the accuracy of financial data and provide meaningful analytics that support impactful business decisions. Your collaboration with BNA finance team leadership and functional business partners, such as Market Access and Medical, will be key. You will also lead special projects, designing innovative processes for operating expense tracking and oversight, while managing routine budgeting processes and financial reporting. Your role involves overseeing investments across the organization, working in partnership with the Office of the President and Commercial stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
What You’ll Do:
Serve as the finance lead for BNA operating expense budgeting processes, coordinating inputs from BNA employees and finance team.
Provide comprehensive support to the Head of FP&A, from budget and forecast planning to allocation, variance analysis, and performance tracking.
Lead operating expense consolidations and reviews, ensuring financial accuracy.
Support functional business partners and alliances in managing budgets, investments, and full-time equivalents (FTEs), including tracking and variance analysis for significant operational expenditures.
Design and deliver training to BNA stakeholders on financial and procurement processes.
Lead internal operating expense and resource budgeting, approve requisitions, drive reconciliation activities, and post journal entries.
Identify business trends, prepare materials for business reviews, and consolidate financial insights for executive audiences. Review investments to ensure alignment with business strategy and value creation goals.
Handle ad hoc requests to manage BNA profit and loss requirements, and provide support for inquiries from corporate controllers, tax, treasury, and audit teams.
Who You Are:
You are a proactive and strategic thinker with a passion for finance and business planning. Your excellent quantitative and analytical skills are paired with a keen attention to detail, allowing you to discern key insights from complex data. You thrive in dynamic environments and are adept at building productive relationships across various levels and functions. With a high sense of urgency and the ability to meet tight deadlines, you are flexible, adaptive, and driven by a genuine interest in understanding and contributing to the business.
Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or CPA preferred.
At least 10 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry or finance/strategic consulting discipline.
Distinctive quantitative, critical thinking, and modeling skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including executive communication.
Proven ability to build productive working relationships across various levels, functions, and teams.
Attention to detail with the ability to maintain an “80/20” mindset.
Independent, out-of-the-box thinker with conviction of thought.
Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Hyperion/Essbase
Experience managing financial consolidations, process design, and delivering training.
