About the Department
Berengarra, a multi storey 90 bed state of the art residential aged care facility comprises 60 mainstream and 30 Aged Persons’ Mental Health (APMH) beds designed to deliver contemporary best practice person centered care. Berengarra is co-located with St George’s Hospital in Kew and compliments a suite of existing St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne’s residential facilities: Auburn House & Riverside House (each facility with 30 APMH beds); Cambridge House (30 bed mainstream facility); and Prague House (45 bed facility for people with a history of homelessness).
The care model for Berengarra is that of person centred care, which has at its core the responsibility to ensure and facilitate personal choice in every aspect of life. We provide an environment that eliminates institutional elements to the greatest extent and supports care designed in consultation with each person.
About the Role
The primary function of this position is to ensure the provision of comprehensive assessment and quality nursing care that meets the principles of person-centered care and the requirements of the Aged Care and Accreditation Standards. The Grade 2 Registered Nurse will contribute to the dignity and quality of life of the residents within a safe and comfortable environment.
Classifications for this position will range from YP3 - YP11 ($67,236 - $92,710 base salary per annum).

Duties
Utilizing the principles of person care and in conjunction with NUM and/or ANUM and the resident/ consumer assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document care
Actively encourage residents/consumers to participate in management planning and or care programs while ensuring confidentiality and respect for the patients privacy
Accept responsibility for resident care in a safe and therapeutic environment, ensuring clinical practice extends to the social and psychosocial needs of the resident
Ensure familiarity with the relevant legislation, service policy and department of Human Services guidelines and act accordingly
Actively participate in education and learning activities offered internally and as appropriate, externally
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Bachelor of Nursing
Current Nursing Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
You have experience in the delivery of residential aged care or demonstrated interest in same
You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including sound oral and writing skills which allow for effective communication with residents, visitors and staff at all levels
You have an understanding of relevant legislation, of the principles and practice of aged care, and a working knowledge of the Commonwealth Residential Care Standards and accreditation process.
Post graduate qualification in Aged Care desirable
