This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight and Mission Assurance team.

As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will guide the development, production and flight accomplishments of an Avionics integrated product team (IPT) in support of one of the Blue Engines programs. Our engines are being developed to support affordable, low-cost access to space. This role will lead the overall budget, schedule, and technical rigor required for development and production, manage upgrades & improvements, ensure certification for flight and support our commercial operations. This product-based team is responsible for engineering definition/ product design, engine interfaces, hardware/ software/ sensor suite, risk management, verification activities, ground engine test, and engine flight operations for the avionics elements of the rocket engine. Customer and Government contractor interaction will be required! This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards cost-managed, safe and repeatable spaceflight!

Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Deputy Program Manager (DPM) and be accountable for planning, execution and on-time/on-budget delivery of Avionics scope as delegated by the DPM.
  • Responsible for the overall product lifecycle from development and test planning to qualification, certification, initial production and rate production.
  • Lead the cross functional team to achieve the Avionics scope by providing programmatic leadership. Collaborate with the resource owners to manage the IPT workload.
  • Establish and maintain regular business rhythm, consistent review products, action tracking, and consolidate information for effective decision making, including maintaining and routinely reporting performance to plan on schedule, resources, program/ product cost, and technical performance metrics for program and company level reviews.
  • Deliver program status updates to program manager, customer and Engines Leadership
  • Maintain robust documentation of your approved program scope & deliverables, ensuring scope is clearly communicated across all Blue Origin supporting organizations, and you/ your team facilitate alignment of the resource needs, resource availability and time-phased budgets.
  • Facilitate support from Blue Origin Support Functions: Operations, Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), Test and Flight Operations (TFO), Safety Quality and Mission Assurance (SQ&MA) and other support organizations.
  • Liaise between various internal/ external businesses partners and process owners to facilitate seamless program execution.
  • Develop, own and support the maintenance of a resource loaded schedule and ensure resource demands are loaded into the appropriate forecasting and management systems.
  • Be responsible for managing the production cost of your IPT hardware & test scope.
  • Work with Chief Engineering, Engines & Space Vehicle engineering & design teams to identify and resolve technical issues across the product lifecycle.
  • Support your IPT implement requirements decomposition and allocation, systems engineering, technical design, analysis and verification/ validation, and management of internal/external engine interfaces and support engine ground test and flight operations.
  • Lead large and complex technical trade studies for future upgrades.
  • Lead program risk management processes, tracking and implementation of mitigation plans across all programmatic measures including development/ production cost, schedule and technical performance and drive to an acceptable level.

Qualifications:

  • Desire to lead and handle small teams on fast-paced hardware and flight projects.
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • 8+ years of experience in a multi-disciplinary team responsible for designing/ developing sophisticated electronic and/or software products, ideally within aerospace.
  • 2+ years of project management experience.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in electronics or software ideally for space qualified liquid rocket engines, military or commercial aerospace avionics, manufacturing, systems engineering, integration and/or test.
  • Excellent understanding of the development test process in space or aerospace industries
  • Experience with budget management and reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire to support customer, government contractor and internal Blue executive interaction.

Desired:

  • Experience with logic linked scheduling and Cost Account Management such as EVM.
  • Experience with IMP/IMS, risk management, configuration management, requirements management processes.
  • Experience across multiple portions of the product life cycle.
  • Experience with human spaceflight or high-performance aircraft systems.
  • Experience with Primavera (P6), DOORS, CREO, Windchill.

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $167,088.00-$233,923.20
