Are you a leader with a strong background in Database Administration, Data Reliability Engineering and Data Engineering space? Do you have the technical expertise to drive innovative solutions and a proven track record in managing resources and stakeholders to ensure smooth business operations and enhance productivity and efficiency?

The Database Engineering team at Workday designs, builds, develops, maintains, and supervises database infrastructure, ensuring that all of Workday's data related needs are met with dedication and scale, while providing high availability that our customers expect from Workday. We are a fast paced and diverse team of database specialists and software engineers responsible for designing, automating, managing, and running the databases on Private and Public Cloud Platforms. Our team is the driving force behind all Workday operations, providing crucial support for all Lifecycle Engineering Operations. We ensure that Workday’s maintenance and releases proceed without a hitch and are at the forefront of accelerating the transition to the Public Cloud.

About the Role

To oversee our database reliability engineering in Chennai, Workday is seeking a Manager, Site Reliability Engineering.  This crucial position is essential to our goal of providing our customers with dependable and highly available database infrastructure for their mission-critical workloads.  As a leader, you will lead DBAs and database engineers to achieve excellence by emphasizing dependability and availability and improving database performance. Serve in a rotational on-call and weekly maintenance supporting database infrastructure. Support regular upgrades and patches to maintain security vulnerabilities. Support database scalability by partnering with platform, service, and performance teams for maintaining SLAs. The objective is to achieve database infrastructure resilience across a multitude of environments and the cloud. About You

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience directly managing teams supporting mission critical production workloads on MySQL, PostgreSQL, CloudSQL and other Cloud native databases.
  • 8+ years of experience with design, develop, manage database administration and development using MySQL, PostgreSQL, CloudSQL and other Cloud native databases.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one Cloud technology: AWS, GCP and/or other clouds managing clustered, highly available database services deployed on different flavors of Linux.
  • Bachelor's degree in a computer related field or equivalent work experience


Other Qualifications:

  • Experience with database architecture, design, replication, clustering, HA/DR 
  • Working experience in multiple languages such as shell, python, ruby etc. 
  • Good working knowledge of GitHub, JIRA confluence 
  • Outstanding team player with considerable analytical, collaborative, and written communication abilities
  • Demonstrate a great ability to explain complicated technological concepts to audiences who are both technical and nontechnical.
